Meet Landen. He is a 15-year-old freshman at George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia. Like most kids his age, he enjoys playing mini-golf, archery, swimming, video games and spending time with his friends and family. He is active with his church, Woodlawn Baptist Church, and enjoys giving back to his community and helping others when they are in need. Right now, Landen needs our prayers! Last October, Landen began to suffer from nosebleeds, which his family thought were just seasonal. In December, he went for an annual checkup, during which the nosebleeds were brought up as a concern. The doctor referred Landon to see an ENT specialist. The ENT believed that a polyp was blocking Landen’s nostril. After trying some nasal sprays and antibiotics, he saw another doctor who recommended a CT scan. The CT scan showed that it was not a polyp, but a mass that was obstructing his nasal cavity and left septum. The mass was tested, revealing it was not cancerous. Landen was diagnosed with Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma, a highly aggressive tumor inside of his head. In February, the tumor was removed and things were going well. Landen went back for follow-ups and scans in March and they were clear. He had a few ER visits throughout the summer due to some headaches and passing out. We went back to UVA in Sept for a 6-month follow-up, and scans showed that JNA tumor is back this time in the brain connected to his optic nerve carotid artery. It's on a part of the brain that controls his nerves. UVA is not capable of doing surgery so Landen will have to go to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. We have been told they are number one in the United States for this kind of surgery. Doctors want us in Pittsburgh on September 9, 2019, to meet with doctors and Embolization surgery on the 10th. The main surgery will be on September 11th. After the surgery, Landen will be in Pittsburgh for about two weeks and will need radiation treatments as well, but will try to set them up closer to home. We are asking for everyone to pray for Landen during this difficult journey. He is at high risk for so many complications with the surgery. We believe in the power of prayer and we are praying to God for healing. Landen is such a compassionate and loving young man with a contagious smile and a pure heart. Please join us in praying for him!
