The Valeo Coordinator maintains an organized and diversified program of individual and group activities, which will enable each resident to engage in diverse cultural, spiritual, physical, social and intellectual activities within the community in order to sustain and promote the resident’s potential and sense of usefulness to self and others. For World Kindness Day, we had a special guest. Residents enjoyed a fun social and magic show starring magician Bruce Dyvig. Bruce is a longtime friend of resident Harry Monteith, a famous magician who played at Caesar’s Palace, under the name Harry Monti, for many years. Due to Harry’s upcoming 90th birthday, and to celebrate his prestigious career, Bruce kindly stepped in to perform some magic in Harry’s honor. There were flames and animals that appeared out of nowhere, as well as some amazing tricks with cards, metal rings, and other props. Bruce, thanks for being so kind in bringing this special show to Harry and our community!

It is that time of year! Our garden is flourishing and yielding so much that we get to donate some to a local food pantry.

The BH residents did a great job planting, watering, weeding, and picking to make this happen.

Residents went Nerf gun “Deer Hunting” as part of Barathaven Christmas in July! Thanks to Gwen, Natalie, and Casey for being our deer and taking several shots for the team! Residents had a blast trying to bag a deer, however Danny was disappointed there was no venison at the end!

Remember how good it felt as kids at the beginning of the school year to have new school supplies, such as new Crayons, new pencils, and fresh notebooks and folders? School will be back in session soon, but many students in the St. Louis area begin school with no supplies because their families cannot afford them. We can help some of their students with the supplies they need to begin the school year off right. Leave any donations in the container in the front lobby. All supplies will be donated next week, so please help if you can!
