These simple changes to your diet can reduce high blood pressure and lower risk of heart failure

A 13-year study led by doctors at Wake Forest School of Medicine confirms that a low sodium diet can reduce high blood pressure and lower risk of heart failure. Read more here: #veinhealth

Yes, it’s possible that your #mentalhealth could effect your #veinhealth. How? #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
• Long term stress and anxiety can cause extra pressure on already weak veins, which could make it hard to pump blood back to your heart.
• The hormone cortisol increases when the body is stressed, causing your brain to crave sugary, fatty, greasy, and vein and artery-clogging junk food.
• Cigarette smoking is a common coping mechanism for those suffering from mental health issues. Its harmful chemicals lead to circulation restriction, blood clots, along with a variety of other health concerns.
• Depressed individuals typically don’t have the energy or motivation to exercise, thus losing healthy blood circulation and becoming more susceptible to vein disease.

Talk to a mental health professional about positive ways to address your psychological well-being, and contact us if you are concerned about your vein health. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Being active helps to prevent DVT by not allowing your blood to remain at rest (venous stasis). When blood isn't moving, it can clot. Try to be active at least 15 minutes every hour to stay ahead of the race!!!

Be aware of what a DVT affected limb looks like - redness, swelling, and warm and tender to the touch areas are signs of a #bloodclot. Give us a call at 937-424-2217 if you or someone you love is experiencing these symptoms. #veinhealth #DVTAwareness

2 million Americans are affected by Deep Vein Thrombosis (aka blood clots) every year. So how can you prevent yourself from being one of them? #DVTawareness

• Are you overweight? Consider losing some lbs. The excess weight on your frame causes increased pressure on various parts of your body, resulting in the reduced ability for the blood to be pumped through your body properly.

• Avoid being sedentary and exercise regularly - doing so promotes circulation and may help reduce the risk of blood clots. Every hour, try to get up and move around whether you’re at work, traveling, or at home. Take a short walk, play with your dog, or do some exercises.

• Drink water - again, it helps to improve circulation. It also helps to flush out toxins that aid in clot formation.

• Wear loose clothing - tight clothing restricts blood flow.

• Talk to your doctor about your risk of clotting whenever you take any kind of hormones

• Do you have preexisting conditions that put you at risk for blood clots? Keep things like #heartfailure, #diabetes, #venousinsufficiency other health issues as stable as possible. Not doing so will increase your risk for clotting.

A #vein specialist is a doctor who has added credentials in the evaluation and treatment of #varicoseveins #spiderveins #lymphedema (aka leg swelling) and other superficial venous diseases.
