There are a lot of misconceptions about treatment and recovery.

Many people imagine shame, judgment, or “rock bottom.”

The reality? Treatment is about support, structure, accountability, and learning the tools needed to build a healthier future.

Recovery isn’t about punishment.
It’s about possibility.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know that help is available — and healing is possible.

Call or email us if you have any questions or would like any information.

Black History Spotlight: Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark

Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark was a groundbreaking psychologist whose research revealed the emotional and psychological harm of segregation on Black children. Her work helped establish a deeper understanding of how systemic oppression impacts mental health and self-identity.

Her findings were foundational in shifting national conversations around mental health, equity, and the long-term effects of trauma caused by social and environmental factors.

Dr. Clark’s legacy reinforces the importance of trauma-informed care and recognizing how environment, history, and lived experience shape emotional well-being. At Woodhaven, we honor this work by addressing the whole person and creating spaces where healing can begin with understanding and compassion.

Black History Spotlight: Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller

Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller was one of the first Black psychiatrists in the United States and a pioneer in early research on Alzheimer’s disease and mental illness. Dr. Fuller conducted during a time when Black professionals were largely excluded from the medical field.

Despite systemic barriers, Dr. Fuller advanced the understanding of neurological and psychiatric conditions and helped lay the groundwork for modern mental health treatment.

Dr. Fuller’s legacy reflects the importance of culturally competent care and expanding access to mental health services for underserved communities. At Woodhaven, we continue this work by meeting individuals where they are and providing equitable, evidence-based care that supports long-term recovery.
