Today our Early Intervention Department bids goodbye to one of its most experienced staff. Elisa Bechtel, a MCBDDS Early Intervention supervisor, spent 36 years coaching families and caregivers to help their infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities reach their potential. Studies show that the work she and early intervention specialists perform has a very real impact on the development and success of children, not just in school, but later in their lives. We wish Elisa (pictured at left, with her supervisor) a Happy Retirement and all the best in the future!

At least one airline is testing systems to make air travel accessible and comfortable for people with wheelchairs by allowing them to board and ride in aircraft in their own chairs. Check out this article from Wheelchair Travel for more: https://wheelchairtravel.org/airbus-airspace-u-suite-wheelchair-securement-system-aix-2026/?fbclid=IwY2xjawRYxFVleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeAjp3bdEHXR42L73YusWCi1KGdw_zlMeWVTvocRZAJZw-ajuj0_91Qi0X_og_aem_WBKXVYE-RFqvjPfLeMzUTg

The Airbus Airspace U Suite, tested in the air last month and demoed at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, could be the future of air travel for wheelchair users.

On Saturday night, two people stole a catalytic converter from a URS: United Rehabilitation Services transport van used to serve people with disabilities in our community. URS needs the community's help to solve the crime.
The vans were at their facility on the corner of Old Troy Pike & Needmore Road. Suspect #1 was a man on a bicycle, wearing a light-colored hoodie or jacket, baseball cap, and white sneakers. Suspect #2 was a man on an electric scooter, wearing a dark jacket with red accents and a cap. The pictures aren't especially clear, but they are hoping someone in the community may have seen something, or even recognize the clothing, the scooter, or the bike.
These vans connect people with disabilities to programs and community activities.
If you have any information about this crime, please contact Riverside Police Officer Christian Wagner at 937-233-1801, ext. 806, or police@riversideoh.gov, and reference Case -15.
Please share. Even one tip can make a difference. [Images show man in gray hoodie/jacket and gray cap, wearing white sneakers, crouched down between the wheel well and the front door of a white URS transit van, and a second image that appears to be a zoomed-in shot of a person standing on a silver scooter in front of a transit van's front headlight and fender on the driver's side. The person appears to be wearing a dark hat with a brim, a light-colored face covering, a dark jacket with red accents, and what appears to be pants or a skirt with stripes that are maroon, tan, and black.]

Our Early Intervention Department provides families of infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities coaching to further their child's development. One of the most powerful ways young children learn is through pretend play, and our staff often uses this as a strategy. Children develop important skills through imagination like language, problem-solving, and social growth. Keep encouraging your child to pretend at home and at school… BIG learning happens through play!
