Mindy's Battle Page

A year ago today, we lost our dear Mindy. She was a friend of mine who was sick with a mysterious autoimmune disease. Now I found it has a name, "inclusion body myositis overlapping with polymyositis with small fiber neuropathy."

I admired Mindy for her positive attitude throughout her illness. She never gave up trying to get better. She also tried to help others and encourage them. She was a very gifted, talented individual with a brilliant mind who had achieved a lot in life before she became sick.

I am thankful she knew the Lord and is with Him now. I pray for her dear husband Gil who was so faithful to her.

Mindy Surell is currently using a TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) line for feeding. It infuses specialized food through a vein. Mindy has gained some needed weight, but has severe problems with her stomach. More tests will be run such as CT scan and autoimmune tests. Insurance covers some for this, but about 20% is not covered. There are also the costs of the nurse who administers it and the need for a caregiver. Mindy is at a critical crossroads. The TPN line has to work in order for her to live, but she and her husband don’t have the funds to pay their share of the treatments.
