The Country Living Choir merrily rolled across the street from Westview Commons for one of their friendly Sing-A-Long sessions with patients and residents of Westview Health Care Center. Arriving via the courteous comfort of the Westview Commons van, the Country Living Choir sets out with confident command of their choral abilities thanks to the leadership of Assistant Activities Coordinator Nancy Blake.

Lyric sheets are distributed, voices are harmonized, and spirits are lifted every time the Country Living Choir share their gift of music around the Westview campus. Their set list of classic tunes from the American songbook catches the ear of everyone in the vicinity and often captures bystanders to join into the vocalizations. Their next Sing-A-Long sensation rings out when they host an audience on their home stage at Westview Commons’ Picturedrome Theater—stay TUNED!

To the Westview Wayfinders, our Limitless Lighthouses:

Life is a voyage, and it helps to know where to find safe harbor. At Westview, this port is not a place, it is people. It is family—a dedicated team that shines a guiding light for every patient, resident, and student who comes aboard.

This week, we gaze out at the horizon and see your radiance, clear and true. You stand on the precipice of care, shining a beacon that cuts through the mists of uncertainty and guides every patient, resident, and student to a place of safe anchorage. Your responsibilities at Westview Health Care Center, Country Living at Westview Commons, and Westview Child Care Center are great. Your impact is immeasurable.

In every act of kindness, every moment of expertise, every tender turn of care, you are a torchbearer. In your collective efforts, you are a constellation of stars, illuminating the path forward. During Westview Employee Appreciation Week 2025, we honor the incredible luminaries who light the Westview way. Thank you for your brilliance and for being the soul of this radiant community.

Lighting the way with a Recreational Therapy activity at Westview! Patients and residents took part in an “Illuminated Mandala” craft project and were beaming with pride for their creations. By using popsicle sticks, clothespins, and hot glue, frames were set up for each artist’s illuminated tile to be affixed.

The mandala sheets that were printed out and provided were on simple white paper. Then, after using a layer of wax crayon for color, a layer of baby oil is applied as the “glowing medium” to bring the light forth. Small battery-operated luminary lights placed behind each mandala offer a warm, personal beacon for each artist to call their own. As they set out to dry in the daylight by the window, this palette of miniature panels beamed forth like mighty stained glass masterpieces.

Ty Nilo earned acknowledgement as Westview Health Care Center’s Employee of the Month in June. Ty provides operational support to multiple teams at Westview as an Administrative Assistant; aiding the healthcare, maintenance, and business systems throughout the Dayville, CT skilled nursing facility. At times in this role, Ty specializes his duties to help complete the goals of specific departments and has excelled in adapting, asserting, and assisting in a great variety of Westview’s efforts. Through these endeavors, he has become well known among the staff at Westview Health Care Center, Country Living at Westview Commons, and Westview Child Care Center.

While living in Union, CT for most of his life Ty maintains connections with friends across the state. He is a graduate of The Woodstock Academy, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Nichols College. Ty’s father Terry is a carpenter and his mother Phuong is a Doctor of Physical Therapy—specifically the Director of Westview Outpatient and Aquatic Therapy. As a result, Ty has been mutually familiar with Westview facilities and staff for many years, and his present-day professional performance is a strong compliment to his narrative. This recognition signifies facility-wide praise for Ty’s myriad contributions since joining the staff in October 2023. Among his outside interests, Ty has a keen sense of style and steady intentions for his fitness. Ty asserts that spontaneously planned adventures he has with friends are celebrated the same as their long-scheduled trips and traditions. Concertgoing is another passionate pursuit for Ty. While is proud to have seen Blink 182 four times (he insists that he truly enjoys a diverse array of music!) he appreciates everything from pop hits to punk rock to film scores.

During his professional tenure at Westview, Ty has held many different responsibilities as a direct assistant to the Support Services Director, the Staff Education Director, and the Infection Prevention & Control Director. In addition to those roles Ty has also served salutations and smiles at the reception desk for visiting guests of Westview. Throughout all the reconfiguration of duties and relocations around Westview facilities, Ty comports as calm, cool, and collected. He welcomes the challenge of multidisciplinary understanding, and finds it to be a good application for his education in business management:

“Working at Westview has presented me with a lot of different departmental perspectives, and I like to understand the organization’s structure through all of these contributing parts. There are so many different realms of operation at all of the Westview facilities—I really appreciate being able to experience as much of it as possible.” Ty further detailed his gratitude for all of his interactions at Westview contributing to his success: “I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing and supportive team here at Westview. I thank my co-workers, friends, and all the wonderful community members who visit their loved ones here at Westview. You have all helped create a supportive and empathetic atmosphere that has really helped me continue to grow as a person. I truly am so grateful to you all, and I hope to continue making you all proud.”

Westview Administrator David T. Panteleakos appreciates all the adaptability, intuition, and interest Ty shows in his efforts. “Ty combines an innate understanding of facility operations with a continued curiosity to learn more about all of the functioning aspects at Westview. I especially value his cohesion across multiple departments here, and I know that he has become a trusted teammate throughout our organization.”

Happy Fourth of July from Westview! Thanks to Al Roebuck for entertaining an audience of patients and residents at Westview on Thursday; continuing his show as he walked through our halls to bring music to resident rooms. Today we launched our own homemade rockets—fueled with baking soda, vinegar, and a lot of determination!

We send special thanks to our friends from the Happy Herdsmen 4-H Club for stopping by to have some fun with us. This Windham County group of young agriculturalists focus their farm education around dairy cattle. They visited Westview Health Care Center recently to shed a bit of knowledge, play word games, and kindle fellowship among patients and residents. While they didn't bring us any cheese, they sure did bring us lots of smiles! Thank you to the Happy Herdsmen 4-H Club!

Leah Kelleher PT, DPT carries her vocation forth with passion, professionalism—and most importantly, purpose. Her role today as a Doctor of Physical Therapy is rooted in an early keenness towards medicine developed through family experiences. Through Leah’s education and experience she has accumulated a wide array of knowledge spanning from enabling pediatric populations to helping patients with neurological challenges. She wishes to help her patients live and move to their fullest potential: to aid their ability to live actively, and if needed, to equip individuals with assistive devices to reach their goals. Leah firmly believes that committed efforts result in positive outcomes. She maintains that mindset as constant motivation for herself and her patients as a Physical Therapist at Westview Sports Medicine.

Raised in Methuen, Massachusetts, formative experiences in Leah’s early life manifested inspiration and motivation for a career in medicine. Her mother works for a prominent medical device manufacturer, and Leah had many opportunities to witness surgeons learning how to perform new techniques with innovative equipment. This imparted her with a desire to pursue her own role in healthcare, and she focused on that mission all the way through her college education and graduate work. Leah attended the University of Hartford; earning a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Without hesitation, she began working in the acute care setting of a large hospital in Rhode Island. Leah’s entry to the medical field started with the specialized PT considerations of the hospital’s neurological population. True to her own cultivated interests and expertise, she took a role identifying patient needs to medical device manufacturers. Leah formed a strong foundation in her career as a Physical Therapist ensuring patient access to the most promising assistive equipment.

Leah was making important strides in her career and in life. Competitively riding horses since childhood, she was no stranger to overcoming obstacles. Faith and confidence in her own ability has proved valuable at many points in Leah’s experience. Just months before her wedding, her father suffered a massive stroke. His unwavering commitment to walk her down the aisle stood firm. His resolve amazes Leah, and his continued inner strength despite these challenges ignites Leah’s efforts as a Physical Therapist. She points to her father’s fortitude as an inspiration for the patients she is privileged to work with: “I take what I learned from his initial recovery—and the difficulties he continues to face—and I teach that to all of my patients. You have to do the work to see the results. My father’s experience emboldens me to challenge my patients and empower them in recovery.”

When Leah and her husband Ryan welcomed children into their life, they looked to establish their home in a quiet New England setting while maintaining access to pursue their respective professions. Ryan is a Firefighter and Paramedic in West Hartford, CT and Leah sought opportunities for Physical Therapists in Windham County. Leah took her passion for therapy and rehabilitation to another Connecticut hospital’s outpatient clinic and continued to work with neurologically afflicted patients. She also gained the opportunity at that time to connect with pediatric patients and guide them towards their full physical potential. With her own children Lila, Rhett, and Emerson now growing up, Leah sought daycare options near their home and discovered Westview Child Care Center. Through frequent conversations, Leah struck up a running dialogue with Westview Child Care Center Director Katy Holzer. Their conversations easily flowed between insights into child development to their shared love of horses to a mutual respect for physical therapy. Many around the Westview campus began to hope that Leah would bring her talent to work with Westview Sports Medicine, and they hailed her addition to the team in May 2025.

Across a lifetime of personal and professional experiences she has accumulated a wealth of treatment knowledge; aiding patients recovering from strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and vestibular impairments. Possessing nuanced understanding to treat adults as well as infants, toddlers, and adolescents with a varied set of diagnoses, Leah seeks the growth of patient therapy options for all ages. Leah has a mirrored perspective on critical aspects of the therapeutic journey—both as a family member supporting a loved one recovering from trauma and as a Physical Therapist ardently guiding patients back to their peak ability. Leah identifies her hopes and goals as a member of the Westview Sports Medicine: “Westview Sports Medicine is full of amazing people whose collective goal is to improve our patients and provide our community with the best care.”

Westview Health Care Center Administrator David T. Panteleakos promotes the facility’s credo of ‘Caring for Generations’ as a guiding concept for our team members. “Leah joins our amazing team with an impressive amount of physical therapy knowledge and patient-focused experience,” stated Mr. Panteleakos. “Her ability to work with patients across all ages is a multifaceted strength and a true complement to our Sports Medicine outpatient program. Leah is a great addition to our team; and we look forward to seeing continued triumphs for Leah and her patients here at Westview Sports Medicine.”

The Killingly Intermediate School 7th Grade Chorus endeared themselves to Westview patients and residents with a heartfelt “Music and Mingle” gathering. This social song session arose by the KIS 7th Grade Chorus and KIS Music Teacher Allegra Plantier applying to be a part of a grant initiative for music programs in Connecticut schools. Their acceptance to the program provides funding to buy the song rights for public presentation, transportation to other performance venues, and helps to cover associated choral costs. One key qualifying factor is that the plan must include the student vocalists going to places like skilled nursing facilities—and not only go to sing, but to take some time exchanging in pleasant conversations with their audience. We are so honored, elated, and impressed by their visit to Westview Health Care Center!

Throughout their concert, the KIS 7th Grade Choir projected crisp lyrics in proper meter, demonstrated an impressive understanding of multi-part harmonies, and showcased opportunities for soloists mixed with the melodic backing vocals of the collective. One such example was their rousing rendition of Michael Bublé’s “Feeling Good.” Chorus leader Allegra Plantier beamed with gleeful energy as she conducted the singers. She spoke to her students’ remarkable confidence, as they were the ones who selected such ambitious but attainable pieces to perform. Most of all, she proudly commented that the best part of this experience is the mutually shared enjoyment between the chorus and the audience:

“I think this is such a beneficial event for both the patients and residents at Westview as well as our students. They get to share their love of music with those who have likely grown up with music as an essential part of their life.”

As planned, the students shared some fellowship with Westview patients and residents following the concert. Their conversations ranged from cordial reviews about the concert of note to lively repartees on local trivia. We are so thankful and so impressed in experiencing the extraordinary talents and charming company of the Killingly Intermediate School 7th Grade Chorus. Bravo, Bravo!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

Gone fishin'! Patients and residents at Westview enjoyed an imaginative fishing expedition today. Our Recreation Department had fun creating the props with cutout shapes, pool noodles, string, magnets—and a few punny jokes. (What do fish need to stay healthy??? Vitamin Sea!) With each catch, residents shared chuckles and eye-rolls as the attached joke was read aloud. In the safe confines of their own tank, the real Westview fish looked on as happy spectators.

To celebrate our incredible staff and the joys of the sunny season, Westview hosted a “Spring Fling” for employees at all three facilities. A gourmet summer BBQ spread was prepared by our talented culinary team, helmed by Westview’s Dietary Services Director Nathan Mitchell and expertly smoked and seasoned by Country Living at Westview Commons’ Dietary Manager Matt Barks. This savory banquet consisted of smoked beef brisket, buffalo wings, honey mustard wings, and several summer salads to add in brighter flavors.

As a well-deserved desert, we asked our friend “Mister Softee” to stop by and deliver some sweet treats from their ice cream truck. Sure enough, Mister Softee spent time parked outside of Westview Health Care Center, Westview Child Care Center, and Country Living at Westview Commons for soft-serve sessions at the convenience of all employed in each facility. Mister Softee kindly returned back to Westview Health Care Center at the end of their tour in order to dish out a few more sundaes, shakes, and splits to the first shift team concluding their day and for the second shift team to enjoy on their way into Westview.

Leading up to this week, we knew we wanted to create another sand sculpture in front of Westview’s patio. We wanted it to coincide with the summery theme of our celebration, and the calendar timing graciously guided our concept. While Memorial Day occurred a few days prior, recognizing the honored fallen who made the American dream possible is an enduring message.

We honor all those who have fallen so that we may stand as proud patriots in the United States of America. Our freedom, peace, and joy is only possible through the generations of brave men and women who have made this ultimate sacrifice. The Westview family is forever grateful for our brothers and sisters whose lives were laid down in order for us to rise. We send Memorial Day blessings to all.
