Happy New Year! I am thrilled to introduce a new series of classes for what is so close to my heart – Women’s Health. Years back, in 2006 when I was assisting my teacher during Yoga for Women class, I was struck with a profound realization that I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing – helping other women with their Yoga practice on their journey to health and self-discovery.
Now, 16+ years later, having had two pregnancies and C-sections, having nursed my daughters, and raising them to be strong, independent people, I am navigating precarious waters of perimenopause. My take and understanding of Women’s Health is deeper, more personal, more compassionate.
My father used to joke that when women meet, one of the topics of their conversation is “We are women. I gave birth, you gave birth, we gave birth. And they are friends for life”. And he’s right. When women meet and talk about their shared experiences, they connect on a deep level. Yoga does the same. The shared experiences we have on the mat doing asana, pranayama or dhyana (meditation) unite us on a level that is beyond words, cultures, backgrounds, religions…
