Evan's Elves : Making Christmas Memories for Less Fortunate Evan's Elves was created in November of 2012 and is made up of myself and my friends and family who What We Are? Many had a unique circumstance occur.

November 2012 my mother fell ill and spent some time in the hospital. It was during that time that I had a lot of time to think and realize how many children and adults are left to spend the holidays in the hospital. One step further, I than realized how many children may not have a Christmas at all based on what their family can afford or what they are going through. I could not imagine being a child and not waking up on December 25 to a Christmas tree filled with gifts, let alone going through the winter months without warm winter coats, clothing, etc. I wanted to do something that gave back to my community and impact others as well as give families the chance at a Christmas that I had yearly growing up. After much research I found that ADOPT-A-FAMILY VOLUNTEER MICHIGAN was the most reliable source. In 2012 we selected 5 families from the ADOPT-A-FAMILY agency. The advisor asks for a city, how many families, and how many family members per family we want. I supply what I am looking for (2012 we did Dearborn, MI families and the family sizes ranged from 2 individuals to 6). It is here that I would like to remind people that these families are not just mother's getting pregnant and taking advantage of the system. Whether it be a spouse who was the main income for the family, passing away or a line of bad luck, or constant hospital bills from a sick child that left them having to sell everything in order to assist in helping get their child feeling better. Needless to say once the families are selected. We post each family in the EVENT and individuals are able to announce on FACEBOOK what they want to do. They can select taking on a whole family, buying toys for one child, buying clothes, making a donation towards the family dining card, or merely making a generic donation and than whatever area needs items bought, I use that money to cover the costs. NO MONEY ever goes to myself or my crew. If money is left over we will add it to the gift card to the family, buy additional household supplies, or purchase more clothes. The family does supply us with a list of what each child wants, their likes and interests, the clothing sizes, favorite colors, favorite cartoon characters etc. All of that is published so that each of you can see if you want to purchase a specific item. What we aim to provide? - A "WOW" gift per child, a few smaller gifts, a stocking filled with treats, school supplies, a clothing item, and a winter jacket. Than we provide the parent with a gift card so that they may purchase the supplies needed to make a Christmas dinner for their family. Around a week before Christmas we get together as a group and wrap all of the gifts together. We laugh, watch Christmas movies, and snack and have a few drinks and gaze in what we have been able to accomplish. If you would like you are more than welcome to attend the wrapping event or you can reach out to one of us and we can arrange a means of receiving your gifts so that we can wrap them on the wrapping day. The day after wrapping we deliver, though this year we are looking into having an "open-house" where the families will be able to come to one location and pick-up their gifts. We will have cookies and treats for the families and allow for the children to decorate their own stockings. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. This year I have set up an account with gofundme.com which allows for you to make donations to the cause with a debit or credit card. ***I promise you, accomplishing this task is not easy and a few people cannot do it right with our economic means so TRULY ever dollar does help in the final outcome. Thank you so much,

Evan

***Remember, even $5 helps...these families have much less than you and I. If you can afford to eat out, get your nails done on a weekly basis, have a few $2 beers at the bar...than you can give up one of your luxuries (YES...They are luxuries) and make a minimal donation to assist at giving a child a Christmas. Remember your Christmas as a child, how would you feel having nothing to open. And this year is easier than last year, as long as you have a debit/credit card you can donate at fundme.com and not have to find away to track me down and give a cash donation...if you have questions please ask.

This is a friend who honestly means every word he has written. He has helped others. He has been a shoulder to cry on for so many people. He is beyond selfless…and I mean that to the wildest degree. He just would NEVER ask for help. Deep down I know it must kill him to have accepted this.

But when you need this level of care. This level of assistance. And our insurance companies fail us. It is left to the people to help one another.

Paul is a friend who puts the “human” in humanitarian. This is simply just one amazing person. And it hurts me to know while he deals with an extremely long recovery ❤️‍🩹 that he also forced to think about “Do I have enough money to get better?”, “Do I have enough money to complete my post-operation procedures?”, “Do I have any money to actually buy daily items?”

Those who should only be focused about their recovery should not be worried about bills and if they can afford future treatments and post-surgery rehab; that the insurance company will not cover. I’m lost at how a person in a building who knows nothing about the procedure he had done gets to dictate what money he has for post-operation services.

I’m angry for him. Apparently the loss of a CEO did nothing to better shape our healthcare world.

But I refrain…this is all about Paul.

Please help my friend. Even $5 does something good.

Thank you,
Evan

Good Morning Elves,

First, we hope everyone is staying healthy and safe and doing well.

This year we had the intention to bring back Evan’s Evan's Elves : Making Christmas Memories for Less Fortunate after choosing to take the last two years off in regards to Covid and ensuring the health and safety of all of our volunteers, as well as, all the families, veterans, and orphans we adopt each Christmas.

Unfortunately, the three lead members of Evan’s Elves have many events going on within their personal lives at this current time and being that the three of us completely started this non-profit as a secondary element to our careers and personal lives. We too sometimes have to think about our mental and physical well being to ensure that we can offer the best services to those we adopt and plan the shopping, fundraising, delegation of families, veterans, and orphans to shops for, and plan the evening event for everyone.

With that being said, we knew we could not make this a successful year. Since we have been on a two year delay we figured taking one more year and then coming back would be our best decision to ensure we never dropped the ball this year with proper planning, like we have done for the past 10 years.

We are so pleased and proud to have received so many messages asking if we were back up and running. We love knowing that we have created so many dedicated elves to
Our cause.

May you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy-Healthy New Year in 2023, and we hope to be working with you this time next year.

All our best,
Evans’s Elves

❤️🚨❤️Good Evening Elves and Friends of Elves❤️🚨❤️

This year Evan’s Elves will be taking a second year off from our normal Christmas duties of adopting less fortunate families, orphans, and Veterans. While we are highly aware that our services have never been needed more. We have also had to take in some other matters into consideration in order to know if we could do our best for the families and individuals in need. Sadly, at the end of the day we knew we could not do it successfully given the parameters we are working within.

Two of our key leaders are each dealing with personal health and/or family issues while some of our biggest local business sponsors are still trying to make ends meet and one even went out of business over this summer. Given these circumstances along with the unknown on if our other donors will have the financial freedom to contribute more to compensate for the loss donations, we are also very mindful that we are still dealing with Covid and would not want to put into harms way any of our volunteers or those we adopt.

This is not an easy decision and we very much plan to be back on for 2022, as of right now.

For those of you looking to still make an impact on the life of a less fortunate family, veteran, or elderly person please visit https://aaf.voami.org/. This is the organization we started Evan’s Elves from. Originally we picked families and veterans from this local non-profit as they taught us how to screen families and actually become a non-profit. So they are the pros. You can create a login. Then put in your search request (zip code of the family or nearest you, how many kids, kids ages, etc) and a report will generate that shows their story and you can then chose that family and the website will tell you next steps. Equally, if you are a family in need. You can fill out the “ADOPT ME” form and a member of Volunteers of America Michigan will contact you to screen you and get you added to the website so a family or kind individual can adopt you.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2022. Until then May all of our elves and families have a very Happy Thanksgiving, A Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and one blessed New Year! 🎉 Please stay safe and enjoy time with the ones you love.

Cheers to you all,
The organizers of Evan’s Elves 🎅🏼 🤶 🎄 ❤️

A “Thank you” and a “See you in 2021” from Evan’s Elves 🎄 🎅🏼 🤶 ❤️,

The world has no idea how big it will be next year! So very appreciative for all the support we have had from so many amazing friends, family, local businesses, neighbors, and strangers! 🎄 ❤️ The joy and love we have brought to so many families, children, and veterans is unbelievable. The stories are heart breaking year after year...and we all have had the ability to make people feel loved and for a few moments, genuinely smile during a time of the year many of us think of “what we didn’t get” and forget to think of how amazing it is just to live without worry of food with our children and parents. In the past we have spoken to a six year old boy who on his “wants” list not “needs” list was a toothbrush because he wanted his brother to not have to share his toothbrush with him. We have had an orphan ask for a mother. We have had a family where the mother lost her 2 children to a fire, a mother who called last minute to cancel what we had bought them because her daughter was going to pass away before Christmas and didn’t want us to “waste” our time on time. Our volunteers have brought and included their own young children in the festivities so that they can see how other people live and to appreciate what they have. We have had amazing support from local tattoo artists who do insane face paintings, a Mrs’ Claus 🤶 who gives it her all for us every year. A dedicated Santa. We have had horse and pony rides and a reindeer petting zoo. We have shown so many people that a community can still come together and support each other. We have shown our community that kindness and love are still real between strangers.

2020 we had to walk away from. We knew we couldn’t do the event and we feared asking volunteers to make sacrifices when personally we knew our core team of supporters and businesses were having financial issues of their own and we wanted to be mindful of those who have supported us and the community for so many years and not ask for them to remove funds from their families during this year.

We will be back in 2021 and we will make it one amazing year of celebration. I have said for a long time. 2021 would be an amazing year...even before Covid...I just know it.

God bless you all. May everyone have a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday, and a safe - healthy - Happy New Year! ❤️
