It’s a good feeling to make an idea you’ve had in your notebook for 5+ years finally come to life! 😎

Pay-it-forward is a core function of Yellow Mat Wellness’ community service model, built on yogic principles Aparigraha (non-grasping), Santosha (contentment), and Dāna (generosity).

On Sunday, November 23rd at The LOLA, we’re creating a space where style becomes a mindful practice. Every item is $20 or less, and your $20 ticket becomes $20 store credit—a gentle invitation to choose what truly supports you, rather than grabbing just to grab.

As you find new pieces to carry forward with you, you’re helping us circulate resources back into The WELL’s 2026 pay-it-forward wellness programming. Together, we’re practicing generosity: giving, receiving, and sustaining a community where everyone has access to care and connection.

Thanks to my sister for helping bring this idea to life and for hosting us in their beautiful space.

♻️ $20 THRIFT pop-up is curated by Yellow Mat Wellness Collective + Drea’s Quarantine Closet where your purchase supports community service programming for 2026.

Hey — the opening weekend of The Well was great — lowkey, energizing, and grounded in the practice of community. Thanks to everyone who joined.

Part of shifting my relationship with social media includes being more intentional about how I use it — and it never felt good for me to say “here’s content of me + 600 people” as proof I’m a good yoga teacher and to convince you to join my class.

I’d prefer for us to gather together to practice, not perform.

So I created a free* series of practices designed to teach you more in 4 weeks than you’ll probably learn in your first year of practice.

But you have to sign-up and show up.

There are 3 more chances to join “The Well” in November. RSVP by Friday to get the class details.

*free to you, paid for out of the generosity of students who have practiced before you. This is our “pay-it-forward” model at work.

November is not only my birthday month, but marks an 8 year anniversary of me opening my beautiful little commmunity studio in Oakhurst. I was very young and just full of enthusiasm to take all the gifts I’d received from my yoga training — and pay-it-forward. At the time I didn’t know:

- I was creating one of the first black-owned studio in Atlanta
- I was developing a support system for independent teachers & wellness practitioners
- I was designing a community service model that could be scalable and sustainable
- I was signing up for a real masterclass in entrepreneurship, social impact, and personal development

And honestly, if I knew…it probably would have run the other way 😅

I could preach all day about what happens when we focus on well-being, first. But truly —it takes you showing up to experience it yourself.

Please sign up, show up, and tell a friend. I’ll see you this weekend. 🙏🏽

This is my favorite quote from yesterday’s workshop titled “Emotional Infrastructure 101: The Core Skills of Trustworthy Teams” that I facilitated for 80+ employees at a service-based AI-tech company.

We discussed the necessary components of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and in real-time practice what I’ve termed “Emotional Fitness” — the tools that regulate your nervous system in high-stress situations so that you *can* function properly.

I’m still delighted every time a new group of engineers and account managers discuss how learning these practices is giving them clarity not only at work, but in their daily life, too.

Do you think your workplace has high Emotional Intelligence?

Thank you to all my teachers, students, supporters, and friends for a beautiful 2024. I had the opportunity to transform from teacher back to student, and learned so much. I had the opportunity to practice in multiple cities and countries, reaffirming my belief in just how universal yoga is.

I’m so grateful for a healthy body, clear mind, and grateful heart. Being alive is not for the faint— if you are reading this — you are more powerful and resilient than you give yourself credit for.

I look forward to being in community with you all this coming year. We are better, together.

Here is a picture of me from yesterday, standing in my friend’s house on Christmas, on arguably one of the worst days of my life in recent memory. I was crying for several hours before and after this image was captured. I’m certain that I could have posted a light-hearted caption and this would have disappeared into the stream of holiday cheer. Only I can intimately see the grief I’m carrying.

But — that smile of mine is genuine. I’ll share why.

The capacity I’ve built to control my breath, to redirect my internal dialogue, to tolerate the energy of strong emotions, and to actively ask for help and put myself in community has changed and saved my life.

This is the next step of being trauma-informed.

It’s learning to effectively stop and/or minimize the effects of a traumatic experiences from dragging you back into the darkness.

I’m so proud of myself. It’s the gift I’m able to give to younger me.

As we close out this year and I prepare for this next era of teaching about well-being, mindfulness, and community care, I want to ground myself, and you, in an important truth:

The quality of your life is directly correlated to the quality of your resilience.

You will not avoid pain or discomfort in this lifetime. That’s just it. But you will either continue to be a victim of circumstance and cope in dangerous and destructive ways, or you will use that innate brilliance gifted to you— resilience— to navigate your way back to happiness and freedom. It’s not for the faint of heart. But it’s well worth it.

Sending love to all of you who are in healing. ❤️‍🩹
