This Memorial Day, we pause in gratitude to honor the heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their bravery, commitment, and sacrifice will always be remembered.

At WinnMed, we recognize the profound freedoms we enjoy because of their service and sacrifice. Today, we also hold close the families and loved ones who carry their legacy forward.

As we observe this day of remembrance, we invite our community to join us in reflecting, honoring, and giving thanks.

✨ 100 Robotic Surgeries!!! ✨

Congratulations to our incredible surgery team on completing their 100th robotic surgery at WinnMed—just over six months after launching robotic-assisted surgery in November 2025!

Robotic-assisted surgery allows for greater precision, smaller incisions, and faster recovery—meaning better outcomes for our patients right here in Northeast Iowa.

To our team: thank you for your expertise, dedication, and commitment to advancing care in our community! 👏👏👏

Pictured are a few representatives from our amazing Surgery crew.

💙 Throwback Thursday 💙

We’re taking a step back in time with this early photo of the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, an incredible group whose dedication helped build the foundation of care our community still relies on today.

Names associated with this photo include Stella Hexom, Mrs. Phil Hexom, Mrs. Carlo Sperati, Clara Bonson, and Helen Hjerleid Johnson; just a few of the many women whose time, compassion, and service made a lasting impact.

That spirit hasn’t gone anywhere. Today’s WinnMed Auxiliary continues this legacy, supporting patients, staff, and programs across our organization, just as these women did years ago.

Do you recognize anyone else in this photo? Or have a connection to the Auxiliary, past or present? We’d love to hear your story. Share in the comments below! 💬

WinnMed is proud to partner with LifeServe Blood Center to meet 100% of our blood product needs. In fact, hospitals across our region solely rely on LifeServe for this same critical support. As a community-based blood bank, LifeServe ensures that blood donated locally is used to care for patients within our own communities.

While the American Red Cross also conducts blood drives in northeast Iowa, it is important for the public to understand that Red Cross donations are distributed nationally and are not used to maintain a consistent supply for local hospitals. LifeServe remains the only community blood bank serving most of Iowa, directly supporting the patients and providers in our region.

Blood availability is a constant and very real challenge. At times, LifeServe’s inventory drops to critically low levels, sometimes representing only a two-day supply of certain blood types across the region. When this occurs, hospitals like WinnMed must carefully conserve, prioritize, and strategize the use of every unit available. Unlike many medical supplies, blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come from generous individuals willing to donate.

There is a clear opportunity to strengthen our local blood supply. Blood drives are held regularly throughout the region, and by increasing awareness and participation - particularly with LifeServe - we can make a meaningful difference. Donating blood is a simple yet powerful way to support the health and well-being of our neighbors.

Upcoming LifeServe blood drives in our area are:
• May 28 at Stone Ridge Community Church in Decorah
• June 1 at the Waukon First Baptist Church
• June 2 at the Calmar Lutheran Church
• June 8 at the Fort Atkinson Community Center
• June 24 at the Cresco VFW

Schedule your donation at any of these drives online: www.lifeservebloodcenter.org/ or by calling 800-287-4903.

We encourage all who are able to consider donating and to seek out local opportunities to give. By working together with LifeServe and our communities, we can help ensure a stable, reliable blood supply for Iowa patients who depend on it every day.

Sincerely,
Dr. Anna Ryan, Medical Director of Laboratory Services, WinnMed
Rona Leliefeld, Director of Laboratory Services, WinnMed
