Our community is experiencing high levels of Influenza A (flu).

Influenza A is a contagious virus and, even though you will feel lousy, in most situations, it just needs to run its course. Most people who get influenza will recover in a few days to less than two weeks, but some people may develop complications (such as pneumonia), some of which can be life-threatening and result in death. Groups more at risk of complications include: young children, older adults, pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions.

Symptoms May Include:
Severe headache
High-grade fever
Coughing
Severe body aches
Loss of appetite
Fatigue

If feeling sick:
Rest: Get plenty of sleep and stay home until fever-free (without medication) for 24 hours.
Fluids: Drink lots of water, broth and electrolyte drinks to stay hydrated.
Symptom Relief:
- Fever/Aches: Over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
- Cough: Honey (adults/kids >1 year) or cough drops (adults/kids > 4 years).
- Congestion: Humidifier/vaporizer, saline nasal spray, or steam from a shower.

Seek Medical Care Right Away If You Experience:
Breathing difficulty
Chest pain while breathing
Severe dehydration
Oxygen drops or confusion

Prevention Tips:
Wash hands frequently
Cover coughs & sneezes
Say home if you’re sick
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces
