How well do you know your food? Like, what's in your favorite cracker/cereal/soup? The nutrition label tells you a lot about the food within the package, and on this healthy journey it's a good idea to know what to focus on when standing in the grocery store. If you know what to look for and what you really want to be eating, it makes the decision making process a whole lot easier. Today's newsletter breaks down the nutrition label and other food marketing labels for you so you know exactly what you're eating; and some strategies to help you stay on track of your health goals.

Include fresh vegetables, fruits, whole, unprocessed foods, nuts, seeds, healthy fat and lots of water every day and you have a sustainable healthy eating pattern, for life. Healthy eating is not the same as dieting. Healthy eating means making decisions about foods, based on scientific evidence, that nourish your body, to optimize how your body functions. Healthy eating becomes a lifestyle that supports healthy living...not just to be free of disease but to live your best self every day, with energy, with resilience, with strength, and with a positive mood and a zest for life.

If you're ready to take the next step toward health, DM me. I love helping people discover the power of real food!

For many people, improvements in health come from all the positive changes that are added…. much more so than what is being subtracted. Subtracting without adding won’t give the same results. It’s all about a healthy balance – in your diet, habits and lifestyle. Stop hyper-focusing on what to avoid and start focusing instead on what to include – like whole foods, exercise, stress management and sleep. Instead of focusing on losing weight, shift your focus to gaining health. It's not that losing weight isn't important; it's that its importance is on a continuum, along with stronger, well nourished and a well functioning body.

You don't have to deny yourself a favorite food because it doesn't align with your health goals. Sure, foods like potato chips, gummie bears, crackers, hershey kisses are made with ingredients that have little to no nutrient value, but might have some major snack value for you! Even as you continue to appreciate the nourishing value of healthy foods, you still have your favorite snack foods. Instead of adding stress to your day by making these foods totally off limits, use this proven strategy to keep yourself on track.

Proactive snacking means being mindful and deliberate about what you choose to eat. It means putting you in control of your own food decisions in a way that you honor your healthy journey. Using a small bowl for your snack instead of eating out of the bag helps you to stop hyper focusing on what to avoid and moves your forward to your health goals.

Because let's face it, healthy eating is one part of healthy living. Enjoying your meals and your food and feeding your desires is important to reduce stress and lower stress means healthy-er living too!

Drop a comment and tell me what your "go-to" snack is and how this strategy works for you!

York Peppermint Patties have nothing on these healthy little treats! Made with dates (naturally sweet, full of fiber, antioxidant properties and minerals too!), pistachios (unsaturated fat, potassium), cacao powder (antioxidants!), peppermint extract (tasty!), h**p seeds (protein, fiber, omega 3) and almond butter (omega 3, monounsaturated fat, vitamins and minerals!), these little sweet disks satisfy when you need "a little somethin" after lunch or dinner or a pick me up snack.

✨DM me for recipe; cuz you need to make these this weekend!
