My entire life it seemed as if the universe was gently nudging me in the direction of yoga. So as I got older and began to discover yoga I was intrigued to find something that fit me so perfectly. A yoga practice offers a way to take care of the body, keep the mind calm and at ease, provide subtle life lessons, and introduce one to a spiritual connection to their own divine self. My yoga practice has been largely self-taught, while using all available resources I have at hand. Learning in this way helps me to offer well balanced yoga classes that cater to the needs of individuals from all walks of life. It's not just about going deep into the poses but going deep inside yourself to let your authentic light shine. I feel honored to be able to share something I am so passionate about. My ultimate goal as a yoga teacher is to simply bring more peace and happiness into my students lives.

Advanced yoga isn’t about how complex the pose looks — it’s about awareness, stillness, and mastery of the basics. True progress begins when strength meets calm and the mind learns to rest.

As we wrap up the first week of the year, many of us are already measuring, planning, and striving. Yoga offers a quieter place to stand.

Santosha—contentment—is the second of the Niyamas in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. The Yoga Sutra tells us: “By contentment, supreme joy is obtained.” Not because everything is perfect, but because we stop postponing our sense of peace.

Santosha asks us to notice where we already are.
To acknowledge what is steady, working, and enough—right now.
It doesn’t mean we stop growing or setting intentions. It means our worth and well-being aren’t dependent on becoming someone else first.

As this year unfolds, what might shift if contentment isn’t the reward at the end—but part of the practice along the way? ✨

Starting the year by giving myself space to slow down, breathe, and find balance — between effort and ease, doing and resting. 🌿

It’s easy to forget that rest is just as important as action. Nothing in nature blooms all the time, and neither do we. Taking intentional pauses helps us feel grounded, clear, and ready for what comes next.

I’ve been spending these moments in meditation, and it’s helping me lay a strong foundation for the year ahead. If you’d like to join me, there are guided meditations in my online studio and a few free ones on SoundCloud (search jbhyoga) — a gentle way to create space for yourself today. ✨
