Before starting with a new client, I asked if they felt any resistance to the process.
They said, “It’s not resistance. I just don’t know how to do the work.”

Which is such a real and relatable response.

Starting is hard because we focus on an outcome, but can't see how we'll break it down into steps that will work for us when our habits take over and life gets busy.

As a coach, I'm like a building partner, helping you construct a vision and plan that feels clear, doable, and actually fits your life.

If you’re in that space too, you’re in good company.

Whether it's DIY or with support, go build what's important to you!

I’m starting a new term… The Overall Effect.

I had a bunch of painting projects I kept avoiding because of the setup, the cleanup, and honestly, I didn’t want to ruin any clothes.

If I wanted to get it done (and I did 😉), I had to remove the obstacles.

I bought disposable roller covers, tray liners and overalls.

Once I took away my excuses and got ready to get messy…

I took down wallpaper, repainted a room, painted an alcove wall, and even a bookshelf!

These overalls are officially my "productive pants"!

If you're noticing avoidance in working toward your goal, what would lower the barrier to beginning?

What’s your version of “overalls”?

“What else is walking into this moment with me?”

It’s a tiny question, but it can completely change the moment you’re in.

We switch “selves” all day long without meaning to.

🧠 Thinking about our kids while trying to work.
🧠 Thinking about work while trying to rest.
🧠 Carrying old tension into new interactions.

When you notice it, you get to choose how you show up.

A small pause can make the whole day feel different.

I know.
You want it so badly you can’t picture it going any other way.

You’ve been gripping so tight, trying to make it happen.
Control starts to feel like the only option.

It’s frustrating, but some outcomes are just out of our hands.

What you do have control over is loosening that grip.
Trusting your judgment.
Trusting your timing.
Trusting that you’ll figure it out if things don’t go as planned.

Trust isn’t pretending everything will work out perfectly.
It’s remembering you can handle it, even if it doesn’t.

Release is when you finally stop white-knuckling what’s not serving you
and give yourself room for what’s next.

You’ve tried strategizing and controlling,
but it hasn’t worked.

So maybe it’s time to release a little.

It shouldn’t feel so hard to receive.
A compliment.
An offer to help.
Even appreciation for something you did well.

And yet, so many of us downplay it or rush to reciprocate.

Giving is wonderful, but when it’s the only thing we allow, there’s usually a sneaky hidden message underneath:

🤝 Accepting compliments isn’t humble.
🤝 Needing help means weakness.
🤝 If someone gives, we should instantly give back to keep things “even.”

You can still be your generous, thoughtful self.
Just balance it by letting others give to you too!

What’s your go-to awkward response when someone offers a compliment or help?
(Example: “Your hair looks great!” Reply: “Oh gosh! I have to wash it!”

“Thanks, I think.” 🤨Have you ever gotten a compliment that felt a little… complicated?Like it came with unspoken rules a...

“Thanks, I think.” 🤨

Have you ever gotten a compliment that felt a little… complicated?
Like it came with unspoken rules attached?

Compliments can lift us up,
but sometimes they make us feel boxed in.

You’re strong.
You’re reliable.
You’re the one everyone can count on.

Praise can quietly become control.
Reinforcing who we’re expected to be,
and who we’re not.

Mindset work isn’t about rejecting those labels.
It’s about giving yourself permission to grow beyond them.

Maybe they were who you had to be once.
Maybe they helped you feel safe.
But you still get to evolve.

🤔 What’s a “compliment” that you're ready to stop hearing?

Do you ever feel the pressure to have a positive mindset 24/7?

Sometimes the way “mindset” gets talked about online feels oversimplified
like it’s something you either have or don’t,
or something you can fix with a quick dose of positivity.

Which is why I decided to start a little family mother–daughter book club with Mindset by Carol Dweck, Ph.D.
(My daughter is a reluctant but accommodating participant ;)

It’s a thoughtful, balanced book and a solid foundation for understanding how our beliefs shape growth.

Because a constant growth mindset sounds nice but just isn't realistic.

The goal isn’t to be endlessly positive.
It’s to be flexible. Observant. Human.

To notice when the fixed mindset shows up
and instead of forcing it away,
offer yourself compassion and shift back:
one small act of trust,
one release of control,
one kinder thought,
one step forward.

A flexible mindset gives you permission to be human.
And that’s a good thing, because that’s what we all are. 💛

💭 When you notice yourself getting stuck in a fixed mindset, what helps you find your way back?

🥞 The first time you flipped a pancake, was it perfect?

Probably not.

Unless you’re a natural-born pancake flipper, it probably landed on the side of the pan, folded over on itself, or half-landed on top of another pancake.

It took experience to nail your technique.
But first there were mistakes.

A lot of uneven, lopsided, slightly burnt pancakes along the way.
Because that’s how you got the experience.

The same is true for mistakes outside the kitchen.
Some come from inexperience, when you’re learning something new.
These are frustrating but easier to accept.

Others come from experience, when you know better but didn’t put that experience to use.
Those are the ones that bring up shame or self-judgment.

But both kinds happen.
And both need self-compassion and reflection if they’re going to lead to growth.

If you want to avoid mistakes entirely, stay inside your comfort zone,
but be warned, that’s often unfulfilling and stagnant.

💭 We’ve all flipped a few “pancakes” wrong in life, what’s your go-to reminder or mantra when things don’t go as planned?

What can smelling good teach us about sustainable success?

If you’re not familiar with Jo Malone, they’re a fragrance brand known for layering scents... mixing something floral or citrusy with something deeper and grounding, like wood or musk.

It’s a ritual of awareness and intention. 🍋 🌿

The same applies to how we work and live.

You can have all the right goals, systems, and motivation…
but if you’re not tuned in to how you feel, your style, or what you need,
it starts to feel like something’s missing.

Smelling good is about harmony. So is sustainable success.

When you bring awareness to what you’re layering-

energy,
effort,
rest,
reflection,

everything blends more naturally. 💫

🤔 What could you “layer” more intentionally this week...
focus, calm, confidence, or something else?

PS- Do you have a favorite Jo Malone scent or combo? ✨

When I lived in NYC, I’d sometimes come out of the subway not knowing which way to go, so I’d just start walking.

Partly to keep up with the flow of foot traffic.
Partly because I didn’t want to look lost.

Eventually, I’d spot a street sign and adjust directions if I needed to.

It’s not that different from how we move through work and life.

Sometimes we come out of a project, a role, or a busy season not entirely sure which direction to go next.

But instead of pausing, we just start walking,
filling the space with movement so it looks like we know what we’re doing.

But, it’s okay not to know right away.
It’s okay to take a few steps, look around, and then reorient.

You may not always need the answers, but you do need awareness (and sometimes the right conversation) to help you see what’s next with fresh eyes.

Share this with someone whose inner gps might just need a moment to reorient.

Did you do the thing?

The one you told yourself you’d do, because you know it would help,
or it’s been sitting on your mental to-do list way too long.

If not, no judgment.
But maybe ask yourself why not?

Fear, overthinking, distraction… or just needing a little accountability.

Following through on what you promised yourself doesn’t just free up mental real estate, it builds confidence and momentum.

✨ Need that nudge? Let’s connect.

What if you don’t know what you love yet?

What if you just know what you don’t want- or that something feels off, but you can’t name what’s missing?

Sometimes the immediate goal isn’t to find your passion,
it’s to collect experiences that help you figure out what energizes you and what drains you.

Know someone who is feeling the pressure of finding their passion? Share this with them.
