Did you know Narcan is not just for people suffering from addiction? Narcan can also significantly decrease the risk of a hypoxic brain injury.

* During an opioid overdose, breathing slows or stops.
* Without oxygen, the brain can begin to suffer irreversible damage within 4-6 minutes.
* Narcan rapidly reverses the effects of opioids, restoring breathing.
* The faster breathing is restored, the lower the risk of brain hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and resulting brain injury.

Here are 5️⃣ examples of non-opioid addicted scenarios where Narcan is necessary:
1️⃣ Accidental ingestion by a child.
💊 Young children often mistake medications for candy or stickers, especially in the case of fentanyl patches or colorful counterfeit pills.
2️⃣ Elderly person takes double dose
👵🏻 Older adults are particularly vulnerable to medication errors and accidental overdoses due to several factors:
Polypharmacy: Cognitive decline and physiological changes.
3️⃣ Teenager or college student takes a counterfeit pill
👩🏾‍🎓 Naloxone was administered in approximately 30% of adolescent overdose deaths, indicating its critical role in emergency responses .
4️⃣ Emergency responders exposed during a call
🚑 The risk of emergency responders requiring Narcan (naloxone) due to occupational exposure to opioids like fentanyl is extremely low, but can not be ruled out.
5️⃣ Postpartum mom prescribed opioids
🤰🏼 Opioid overdose has been identified as a leading cause of maternal mortality in several states, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, and New Hampshire.

🚑 It was just a fall… until it wasn’t.

💡 A simple slip on the ice. A quick bump on the head. “I felt fine,” they said. But days later, the headaches started. The brain fog. The exhaustion. It wasn’t just a fall—it was a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

🧠 Every 11 seconds, someone in the U.S. sustains a TBI. That’s 2.8 million people a year. And yet, so many go undiagnosed or misunderstood.

➡️ Let’s break the silence. Share this post to spread awareness about brain injuries!
