Mondays food distribution…we thank GOD that we were able to serve everyone that came out this week. #175 families served.

Well community, we did the best we could today. Not much was available at the Food Bank but we are satisfied with what we were able to pull for you today. See how fast and hard working our volunteers are as they put your boxes together. Every week they show up to give away whatever we have - and I love that they want to give away everything…🤣, sometimes they forget to take a box home for their own families 🤣🤣🤣

PRESS RELEASE / PUBLIC STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Humanitarian Crisis Is Coming to America in November

America is on the edge of a humanitarian crisis. The political tango between Democrats and Republicans has led to a government shutdown that threatens to deepen suffering for millions of families.

According to the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), more than 47.4 million Americans lived in food-insecure households in 2023 — people struggling daily to afford basic nutrition. That is nearly one in seven Americans.

Yet the political class remains silent. While the debate in Washington focuses on partisanship and blame, millions of ordinary Americans are wondering how to feed their families.

The media narrative often implies that hunger is mainly an issue in minority communities. That is misleading. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and FRAC:

White (non-Hispanic): 37% of all SNAP (food assistance) recipients

Black (non-Hispanic): 26%

Hispanic (any race): 16%

Asian: 3%

Native American and others: 2%

White Americans make up the largest single group of SNAP recipients, proving that hunger and poverty in America are not racial issues — they are human issues.

But the crisis is even broader. Those who are not receiving SNAP assistance are also struggling under the rising cost of groceries and basic living expenses. Inflation has pushed millions of working families and seniors beyond their limits. While politicians in Washington engage in chicken fights, and local governments fail to provide viable alternatives or emergency relief, the American household is collapsing in silence.

Beginning November 1, 2025, millions of SNAP recipients will see further delays or reductions in their food assistance because of the ongoing government shutdown. This is not politics as usual — it is a catastrophic failure of moral leadership.

In a nation that still calls itself “the land of happiness and rights,” how can elected officials remain silent while tens of millions face hunger?

That is why WT8 (We The 😎 will launch a series of one-on-one conversations with candidates for governor in Colorado, asking them directly:

What do you have to say about this inhuman government shutdown that is hurting ordinary people?

The people of Colorado — and the entire nation — deserve real answers, not silence and excuses.

“This is not about politics. It’s about human survival and dignity.”
— Dr. Abass Y. Bamba, Founder of WT8

Denver Health Addresses Food Insecurity with Donations to Food Programs: PRESS RELEASE
October 30, 2025

As the federal government shutdown continues and the Nov. 1 cutoff of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits looms, Denver Health, the city's safety-net health care system, is mobilizing resources to combat a pending public health crisis.

Disrupting SNAP benefits will affect many in our community, including children, pregnant women, older adults and those with disabilities. With millions of dollars in federal food aid for Colorado on hold, local food banks cannot fill the gap alone. Sadly, the impact will be felt first and hardest in vulnerable households.

“Every day, Denver Health providers connect with families who share their deepest concerns, and many share the need for food resources. Our community partners are always there to step in and help,” said Julie Venci, MD, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician and co-lead of community engagement programs at Denver Health’s Federico F. Peña Family Health Center. “Malnutrition and hunger unnecessarily lead to more serious health issues that ultimately are preventable with access to food.”

Dr. Venci and Carolina Guitierrez, MD, run the Produce Prescription Program, an initiative focused on combating food insecurity in the Southwest Denver community, connecting patients with fresh, healthy food and nutrition education. For patients already managing complex or chronic conditions, the loss of SNAP benefits directly translates to an increased risk of poor health outcomes.

Through the generosity of Denver Health Foundation donors, the following organizations will receive money to continue their work to keep food banks full and resources available for Denver families:

Bienvenidos Food Bank
Denver Food Rescue
Food Bank of the Rockies
Montbello Walks
Montbello Organizing Committee (FreshLo Hub)
Project Angel Heart
RE:VISION
Servicios de la Raza
Sun Valley Kitchen
Denver Health values all our community partners working to address social determinants of health. More than $37,000 is being distributed.
