Summer in Colorado is a wonderful time, but it also comes with risks. Hot, stagnate air combined with wildfire smoke across the state brings major air quality concerns to The Mile High City. We encourage everyone to be mindful of ozone and smoke alerts in your area, especially those with asthma, heart or lung conditions.

Make sure to:

✅ Check daily air quality
🏃 Limit outdoor activity when alerts are active
🚗 Cut down on car trips when possible

Protect yourself and your loved ones this season.

Do you find yourself struggling to open a jar? Your grip might be telling you more than you think. Studies show that grip strength can predict your heart health, mobility, independence and even longevity.

“Grip strength is a simple and powerful predictor for general health and quality of life,” said Denver Health physical therapist Maegan Olivos, PT, DPT, MPH.

The good news? You don’t need a gym or special equipment to improve it. Just a few minutes and a can of soup can go a long way. 🥫 💪

🩺 As June comes to a close, we’re wrapping up Men’s Health Month by highlighting a preventable health issue that’s increasingly affecting younger men: kidney stones.

In a recent FOX31 interview, Denver Health’s Kyle Szymanski, MD, shared that more patients in their 20s and 30s are coming in with kidney stones, some requiring surgery.

💧 His advice? Stay hydrated. Skip the soda, energy drinks and alcohol. Water is key.

“The biggest thing is prevention,” Szymanski said.

At Denver Health, we're committed to helping men take control of their health through regular checkups and lifestyle choices that can prevent serious conditions down the road.

As we gear up for Fourth of July celebrations, Denver Health is teaming up with city partners to help keep our community safe and healthy.

🚑 Lt. Jesse Wright from Denver Health's Paramedic Division spoke at today’s Independence Day safety press conference to remind Denverites that while the Fourth is a time for fun, it can also bring risks.

Here are a few simple reminders to keep you and your loved ones safe this holiday weekend:

🎆 Leave the fireworks to the pros: Illegal fireworks can lead to burns, injuries and fires.
🚗 Don’t drive under the influence: Plan ahead and get home safely.
🐾 Keep pets indoors: Fireworks can be loud and scary for our furry friends.
☀️ Celebrate smart: Stay hydrated and keep an eye on little ones in the heat.

Let’s make this Fourth of July safe, joyful and emergency free. Watch the conference below 👇.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser announced a $3 million grant to bring naloxone, a lifesaving overdose reversal medication, to more communities across Colorado.

Weiser was joined Tuesday by Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne at a press conference in front of Denver Health’s Center for Addiction Medicine. The event highlighted the impact this investment will have on the community and featured powerful stories from people with lived experience. 💙

State data shows that making naloxone more accessible in the community is already saving lives. Fentanyl-related deaths, which had been rising steadily for years, declined in 2024. As a frontline provider in Colorado’s opioid response, Denver Health is proud to partner in this effort to save lives and expand harm-reduction resources. 🙌

🏅 Out of more than 3,500 hospitals, fewer than 5% made the honor roll and Denver Health is one of them. We ranked No. 4 nationally and No. 1 in Colorado for overall social responsibility.
