Civitas Rotary Forum

Civitas Rotary Forum CIVITAS is a Rotary Forum for the betterment of Central Iowa. An educational forum is held on a different topic each year with a keynote speaker and panel.

Presented by the Greater Des Moines Rotary Multi-Club Committee, the CIVITAS events bring Rotarians, their guests and interested citizens together for education and networking. Once a year the Rotary Clubs in the greater Des Moines area gather together as “one Rotary” for education, fellowship and community service. Past topics have included hunger, water quality, human rights, substance abuse, and mental health. Attendees also learn about non-profits who provide programs/services relative to the year’s topic. Net income from the event is donated to a variety of these non-profits. Rotarians are leaders committed to making the world a better place – starting right here in central Iowa. The Rotary Club of Des Moines AM initiated the first Forum in 2014 by leading an effort to inspire area Rotary clubs to come together one week each year to do more than any one club could do alone. The featured speaker was Naomi Tutu and hundreds of Rotarians gathered at an event that focused on human rights. Since that original event, the 12 Des Moines area clubs have continued to gather and provide an outstanding educational program and networking event that is available to all Rotarians and community members interested in making a difference in our communities.

We're grateful and proud that CIVITAS was recognized as one of six organizations on January 15th for outstanding work to combat human trafficking at a ceremony held at the Iowa State Capitol. The Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking and Slavery (NAHT) hosted the event along with the presentation of the signed proclamation by Gov. Kim Reynolds, designating January 2025 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Month.

Civitas member Tamara Kenworthy accepted the award on behalf of the Greater Des Moines Rotary Multi-Club Committee and spoke about the accomplishments of this committee, which is comprised of 13 metro area Rotary club representatives, and the impact Rotary has had in combating this complicated issue.
