How does BMI impact your eligibility to become a surrogate?

And why?

👉🏼 BMI (Body Mass Index) affects hormone levels, ovulation, and IVF success rates.

👉🏼 Clinics use BMI to ensure safe pregnancies for gestational carriers and babies.

👉🏼 Too high or too low? IVF outcomes may suffer.

The ideal BMI range for surrogates is between 19-32. Some clinics accept up to 35, depending on overall health. Unfortunately, higher BMIs typically have a higher risk of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, miscarriage, or C-section delivery.

“I went into my first surrogacy journey knowing I wanted to pump. For me, breastmilk was the most nourishing gift I could offer...not just to the baby I carried, but to myself as part of healing.

Sometimes, giving birth as a surrogate can feel like an abrupt end. Pumping allowed me to slowly wean off the journey, emotionally and physically. It kept me connected to the experience and helped my body recover."

Amber shared that one night, she woke up instinctively looking for a baby to feed, only to remember she just needed to pump. It wasn’t sadness, just biology.

Her commitment to milk donation meant setting alarms, pumping around the clock, and balancing life with her own two children.

💜 “You still gave birth and are healing,” she says. “Even without a baby in your arms, the postpartum phase still deserves rest, support, and care.”

Her message to fellow surrogates and milk donors?

✨ “To help the surro-babe grow through breastmilk donation is a way to keep giving the best gift in the world, the gift of life.”
