⭐️MEET THE STAFF MONDAY⭐️

This week we are highlighting our assistant technician, Cole Denner!

Cole has called the Iowa City/Coralville area home for the past two years, but his roots in Iowa go much deeper. Born in Cedar Rapids and raised in the Lisbon and Mount Vernon areas, Cole brings a strong sense of community and a lifelong connection to animals to the Goosetown team.

He grew up on a farm surrounded by livestock, fowl, and even peacocks—helping care for them from a young age and laying the foundation for his passion in animal care. After a brief stint working as a kennel technician at Petland, Cole was recruited by Dr. Rudd Nelson himself to join Goosetown Animal Hospital!

Since our opening in July 2024, Cole has been an essential part of the team, bringing curiosity, compassion, and a true love for learning to his work every day. He plans to continue his education to become a certified radiology technician, building on the experience he’s gaining here at Goosetown.

At home, Cole shares life with his boyfriend Colten and their two beloved pets—Klaus, a German Shepherd, and Fayebaline (Faye), a Himalayan cat. Together, they make home a warm, lively, and love-filled place.

When he’s not caring for animals at the clinic, Cole enjoys tending to his many plants, hanging out with friends, and going on new adventures.

Cole’s warm personality, strong work ethic, and lifelong dedication to animal care make him a trusted and valued member of the Goosetown family. 🐾

⭐️MEET THE STAFF MONDAY⭐️

This week we are highlighting our head technician Stephanie!

Stephanie has called Coralville home for most of her life, building deep roots in the community she loves. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood Community College in 2014, taking her first step into a career devoted to animal care. Stephanie began her professional journey at Tender Care Animal Hospital, where she worked for six years before moving on to serve the Mount Vernon area for another six years. Today, she’s proud to be part of the team at Goosetown Animal Hospital, where she brings over a decade of experience, compassion, and expertise to every patient she sees.
Stephanie recently married and now shares her home with her beloved six pets—three cats 🐈 and three dogs 🐕 —who keep life lively and full of love. When she’s not caring for animals at work or at home, Stephanie enjoys cheering on Iowa football 🏈 , watching movies, reading, gardening, and traveling. Her warm personality, strong work ethic, and wealth of experience make her a trusted and valued member of the Goosetown team. 🐾

Big Congratulations to Tara! 🩺🐾

We are beyond proud to share that our very own Tara has officially passed her VTNE and is now a certified veterinary technician! 💚

Tara has been an incredible part of our Goosetown team. She is always compassionate, hardworking, and ready to lend a helping hand (or treat!). Her love for animals and dedication to their care has left a mark on all of us.

Next week, she’ll be heading off to Illinois to begin this exciting new chapter in her career. While we’ll miss her dearly, we know she’s going to do amazing things and make such a difference wherever she goes. 🐶🐱

Tara, thank you for everything you’ve brought to Goosetown. We’re cheering you on every step of the way!

⭐️MEET THE STAFF MONDAY⭐️

This week we are highlighting Dr. Beth Hinson!

Beth Hinson grew up in the small town of Mediapolis, Iowa, where her passion for medicine and helping others began early. While just starting college, Beth earned her paramedic license, a milestone that would shape her commitment to care and service. She attended the University of Iowa, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology, and later pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian by attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Beth completed her clinical year at Louisiana State University, working alongside talented veterinarians who helped refine her skills and deepen her knowledge. After graduation, she moved to Chillicothe, Ohio, where she had the unique opportunity to learn veterinary medicine from seasoned practitioners who had been serving the profession for as long as Beth had been alive. In 2011, the pull of home brought her back to Iowa, where she first worked in Coralville, then in Mount Vernon, before returning once again to Coralville to join the team at Goosetown Animal Hospital. Never one to stop learning, Beth is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree for practicing veterinarians through the University of Iowa. When not working or studying, Beth enjoys a wide range of hobbies, including cross-stitching, reading, glasswork, walking, riding bikes, cooking, baking, and curling. Her many talents and dedication to her community and profession continue to make her a valued part of the Goosetown family.

⭐️ MEET THE STAFF MONDAY ⭐️

This week we are highlighting Dr. Rudd Nelson!

Rudd Nelson is a native Iowan who began his career in animal medicine at the age of thirteen, working as a technician for a rural veterinarian. Throughout his teenage years, Rudd worked for the same veterinarian after school and throughout his summer vacations. Sometimes they were in a surgery suite in his mentor’s office and other times they were in a pickup truck, visiting farmers and tending to horses and livestock. Spurred on by these early experiences, Rudd became determined to become a veterinarian. He graduated from Wartburg College with a degree in biology and ultimately from Mississippi State University as a veterinarian. After vet school, Rudd moved to Florida where he met his wife, Leslie. While in Florida, Rudd and Leslie opened a successful animal hospital in Fort Lauderdale. However, the pull of the Midwest was strong and together with their children and a menagerie of animals, Rudd found his way back to Iowa. Realizing there was a need for another animal hospital in the Iowa City area, Rudd began looking for a location to hang his shingle once again. When the property became available in Coralville, Rudd and Leslie went to work getting Goosetown ready to offer the type of customer service experience that they were known for in Florida. When not working at Goosetown Animal Hospital, Rudd can be found either at his farm, watching sporting events (he is an avid Hawkeye enthusiast) or attending board meetings for the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine. Rudd was appointed to that position by the sitting governor about ten years ago. During the summer months, he enjoys participating in RAGBRAI at the end of July and spending a week in August on a mission trip to Guatemala where he helps spay and neuter stray dogs and cats. The Guatemala trip is one of the highlights of his year as he has a chance to help people in need. The group, which includes his youngest son, also helps build homes for families in need, in addition to the animal work.
