It's the First Day of School for lots of our local districts. Here is a great reminder for our drivers to help ensure our students are arriving to/from school SAFELY!

🛑What To Do When a School Bus Stops 🛑
It's Day 1 and school is back in session soon. Time to refresh on school bus safety for the kids!

📍 If you’re behind the bus (same direction):
🚨 Flashing red or amber lights = No passing — be ready to stop.
🛑 When the stop arm extends:
✅ Stop at least 15 feet behind the bus
✅ Stay stopped until the stop arm retracts and the bus moves
✅ Continue with caution

📍 If you’re meeting the bus (opposite direction):
⚠️ Amber lights flashing? Slow to 20 mph or less and be prepared to stop
🛑 When the stop arm comes out:
✅ Stop in front of the bus
✅ Stay stopped until the stop arm retracts
✅ Proceed carefully

Thank you Des Moines Fire Department and Iowa State Patrol for helping us spread awareness on just how hot a vehicle temp can get! Never leave a child alone in a vehicle, not even for a minute!

Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau

The State Fair asked if we'd post something on our social media and we said we'd be happy to help out, reminding everyone about the importance of staying hydrated with water, and some of the other need to know things about staying cool in the fairgrounds.

Over the next few days it's going to be very hot, so make sure you're drinking plenty of water, water fill stations will be posted throughout the grounds, and know that coolers and drinks are now allowed to be carried in. The next few days are gonna be hot and we want to spread as much word as possible!

What an amazing event we had in Perry today! Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success. Look at all these old, unsafe gas cans that were properly disposed of! Every participant left with safety information and new metal safety can!

It's the return of ! This summer, 14 children in the US have died from being in a hot car - whether they were left in the vehicle or gained access to a vehicle and became trapped. It only takes a matter of minutes for a car to heat up to a deadly temperature. NEVER leave a child in a vehicle and ALWAYS keep your doors locked to prevent a child from getting into a vehicle.
