Over the past four decades, Gladys has been a steady force of compassion, wisdom, and innovation in the world of children’s mental health. From her early work at the Child Guidance Center to her leadership in advancing trauma-informed care across the state, her commitment has left a lasting mark on our organization and the lives of countless children and families.

Whether launching new initiatives, mentoring colleagues, or building programs from the ground up, Gladys has always been guided by the Orchard Place mission.

Happy from the Orchard Place team! Emojis are a fun way to express our emotions and reactions.

Here at Orchard Place, we often check in with each other by asking, "How are you feeling today?" Trauma separates us from our feelings and can also amplify intense feelings, so this question helps us identify what we are feeling, and to be okay with having all kinds of feelings.

Share your current feelings with us! Drop an emoji in the comments section! 🌞

The House and Senate are proposing drastic cuts to Medicaid and food assistance (SNAP) — programs that thousands of Iowa youth rely on.

At Orchard Place, 75% of the children we serve rely on Medicaid, and many live in food-insecure homes. Cutting these programs would devastate their access to mental health care and nutrition — both critical to healthy development.

✉️ Take Action: Contact your Senators and Representatives today. Tell them:
➡️ Don’t cut Medicaid or SNAP
➡️ Fully fund these life-saving programs
➡️ Protect the health and future of Iowa’s kids

At Orchard Place, we believe mental health is just as essential as physical health — especially for youth and teens.

Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood. Yet, 1 in 5 children experiences a mental health challenge, and many never receive the care they need.

That’s why our mission is at the heart of everything we do:
Orchard Place provides a safe environment for children and their families to heal, find hope, be empowered, and build resilience to overcome mental health adversity.

This May, we’re shining a light on the importance of early support, compassionate care, and breaking the stigma around children's mental health.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing resources, stories, and tips — and inviting you to stand with us in Developing Strong Futures for Iowa's youth.

🚨 Urgent Call to Action 🚨

The Governor is proposing Medicaid rate cuts to Behavioral Health Providers across Iowa — a move that threatens access to critical mental health services for thousands of children and families.

At Orchard Place, we know firsthand how essential these services are. Every day, we help young Iowans facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and other serious challenges. These proposed cuts would jeopardize care at a time when the need for mental health support has never been greater.

We’re calling on our community, partners, and fellow advocates to stand with us. Join Orchard Place and Behavioral Health Providers across the state as we urge lawmakers to reject these harmful cuts and prioritize the mental well-being of Iowans.
