My honeybees are thriving. I actually thought that neither hive survived the winter. One hive was active until March, then it seemed to be empty. The other hive showed no signs of bee life at all. So I just decided let it go for this year, and resume beekeeping in 2025.

A few weeks ago, a few honeybees kept buzzing around my head, car and in my car. I'm use to them greeting me in this manner. However, I thought that maybe they were just visiting bees?

I was just about to buy some new bees. I went back into my yarden to clean out the hives, when to my surprise I discovered that both hives had bees!

I honestly don't know if these are my original bees or a swarm that decided to move in?

Hive #1 and #3 were installed summer 2022. Hive #3 survived the winter. They swarmed from hive #3 into a nearby tree, then flew back down into Hive box #1.

They hives aren't ready for harvesting honey yet! Expect some of the sweet stuff by fall 2024.

I did a Honeybee Hive wellness check in since it was over 53 degrees. I'm pleased to see the girls were flying about. Just 4 more weeks until spring!🐝🐝🐝

I spent a beautiful fall day over at the D-Town farm's Harvest Fest for an award ceremony by the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund. It was to honor and give 50 Black local Urban farmers grants to make our plans into a reality in 2022.
Tansil Products, LLC received an infrastructure award towards Maintenance equipment to manage and upkeep the property at the Hibiscus Honeybee Holistic Habitat Yarden with Chef Tish Tansil on Detroit's west side.
