Norma Smith is 90 years old and has been volunteering with the Red Cross for the past 72 years. 🤩

It all started with a letter she received from her brother, 2nd Lt. Norris Kenneth Calkins, who wrote about the Red Cross ladies that gave service members cookies, coffee, and doughnuts. Tragically, Norris was killed in combat shortly after his letter in 1943, but Norma used his letter and experience to propel her into a life of service.

From responding to disasters to teaching CPR classes to setting up hospital blood banks as a nurse, Norma has done it all with the Red Cross. Her volunteer service not only spans years, but also across many states like Michigan, South Carolina, California and Washington.
