Olivia Roman's Mission Trip: Revival of Detroit March 2015

Olivia Roman's Mission Trip: Revival of Detroit March 2015 I will be going to Detroit, Michigan from March 24th through the 29th, 2015, as a part of my mission Our focus will be on the building the K-Love Hope Center. O.

Dear Family and Friends,

I’ve been given an exciting opportunity to change the world this summer with World hope, and I’d like to share it with you. I will be going with them to Detroit, Michigan from March 24th through the 29th, 2015, as a part of my missions group at Avalon Church. The Hope Center has begun with a church plant and community revival projects within its inaugural year. A day care center, after school programs, feeding center, medical clinics, and whatever else may be required to show the love of Christ to the hurting is their aim. In a place that is as desperate as Detroit, where 10,000 families become homeless every year, anything we can do will make a huge meaningful difference. Each group that goes to the Hope Center in Detroit is responsible for working on a room. The rooms Avalon Church will be working on are the Imaginarium, which is a creative study room, and the Rec room for various recreations not allowed in the creative study room. The world’s greatest need is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God has given me a heart to go on this trip and be used by Him and spend this spring sharing Him with those who have never heard. This is where you come in. In order to make this all possible, I need people who will commit to helping me through prayer and/or financial support. The baseline cost of my trip is $1,500. This cost includes all of my breakfast meals, lodging, and airfare and ministry tools. I need to raise half of my support by February 28th, 2015, and the second half by March 14th, 2015. Any additional funds will either be used for our individual rooms or (God willing) my future trips. Would you please pray and ask the Lord how He would have you help me make my mission trip possible? If you have any questions, I’d be more than happy to talk with you. You can reach me on my cell: 321-438-2025, via e-mail: olivia_sr@aol.com, or via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OliviaRoman12

If you are inclined to support me financially checks can be made out to Avalon Church, with my name in the memo section. By addressing the check or money order to Avalon Church your donations are tax deductible. Your support will be sent directly to me. Contact me via cell phone, e-mail, or Facebook message for P. Box address. I ask for encouraging prayers and uplifting thoughts as my church family and I spiritually and mentally prepare for this trip. Thank you for your consideration in becoming a part of my team. God bless! With love,
Olivia Roman

P. S. Thank you letters recounting the details of how your donations came to fruition will be sent no later than Saturday, April 4, 2015. Here is more information on the World Hope project: Revival of Detroit. This is World Hope's page: https://www.facebook.com/worldhope

I copied and posted many of their Detroit K-Love Hope Center Photos on my page here for quick access. When one thinks of desperate places in the world, so many fit the description well. The very definition of the term “third-world” implies desperation in the extreme. There are not, however, too many places in this blessed land of the United States that would meet that criteria. We were shocked to discover that Detroit does and in a big way. We saw poverty as we have never seen it at home, crime that reaches epidemic proportions, and conditions that would rival those in the most deplorable slums. What we saw were hurting people in need of some good news. With all of that in mind, doing nothing was not an option for us. Since God gives us equal amounts of responsibility to match His blessings, we are rising to meet the challenge of bringing Detroit Hope. We believe the Lord will give us an ideal property to build our first domestic Hope Center; one that will have everything we need to accomplish His goals for us doing His work. Please pray with us in choosing this site among the multitudes of abandoned schools, churches, and other locations that are available. We want the one He wants us to have. The Hope Center will begin with a church plant and community revival projects. A day care center, after school programs, feeding center, medical clinics, and whatever else may be required to show the love of Christ to the hurting is our aim. This of course is where you come in. We need you to help bring Hope to a group of people that government has not been able to help. We need you to help show Hope to a group of people that society has dismissed as being unimportant. We need you to be Hope for the people of Detroit, Michigan. We are World Hope, and together we can bring the Revival of Detroit. Through the K-LOVE Hope Center, lives will be touched when needs are met and beneficiaries find the love of Jesus. Kids with no place to go after school will find a loving place to learn and do helpful activities, be provided with mentors and tutors. Some of the planned initiatives include:

- Refuge for Kids (primary)
- After School Program
- Imaginarium (Study Space/Creative Room)
- FAME
- Sports
- Music Experience
- Fitness
- Sports Program Outreach
- Hope Church
- Hope Center - Meeting Needs (initially Kitchen and Jackets)
- Recover - recovery program
- Music Venue - Impacting Culture
- FUTURE: Business Incubator

- 6 of the 7 schools in our district have been closed
- 3 out of 4 students in our district drop out of school, and of those that stay there is only at 68% graduation rate.
- Median home price in Detroit is $7,500, with thousands of properties on the market for $500 or less.

Shake The Dust by Anis Mojgani

This is for the fat girls
This is for the little brothers
This is for the schoolyard wimps and the childhood bullies that tormented them
For the former prom queen and for the milk crate ball players
For the nighttime cereal eaters
And for the retired elderly Walmart store front door greeters
Shake the dust

This is for the benches and the people sitting upon them
For the bus drivers who drive a million broken hymns
For the men who have to hold down three jobs simply to hold up their children
For the nighttime schoolers
And for the midnight bikers who are trying to fly
Shake the dust

This is for the two year olds
Who cannot be understood because they speak half English and half God
Shake the dust
For the boys with the beautiful sisters
Shake the dust
For the girls with the brothers who are going crazy
For those gym class wallflowers and the twelve year olds afraid of taking public showers
For the kid who is always late to class because he forgets the combination to his locker
For the girl who loves somebody else
Shake the dust

This is for the hard men who want love but know that it won't come
For the ones who are forgotten
The ones the amendments do not stand up for
For the ones who are told speak only when you are spoken to
And then are never spoken to
Speak every time you stand so you do not forget yourself
Do not let one moment go by that doesn't remind you
That your heart, it beats 900 times every single day
And that there are enough gallons of blood to make everyone of you oceans
Do not settle for letting these waves that settle
And for the dust to collect in your veins
This is for the celibate pe*****le who keeps on struggling
For the poetry teachers and for the people who go on vacation alone
For the sweat that drips off of Mick Jaggers' singing lips
And for the shaking skirt on Tina Turner's shaking hips
For the heavens and for the hells through which Tina has lived
This is for the tired and for the dreamers
For those families that want to be like the Cleavers with perfectly made dinners
And songs like Wally and the Beaver
This is for the bigots, for the sexists, and for the killers
And for the big house pin sentenced cats becoming redeemers
And for the springtime that somehow seems to show up right after every single winter

This is for everyone of you
Make sure that by the time the fisherman returns you are gone
Because just like the days I burn at both ends
And every time I write, every time I open my eyes
I'm cutting out parts of myself simply to hand them over to you

So shake the dust
And take me with you when you do for none of this has ever been for me
All that pushes and pulls
And pushes and pulls
And pushes and pulls
It pushes for you
So, grab this world by its clothespins
And shake it out again and again
And jump on top and take it for a spin
And when you hop off shake it again
For this is yours, this is yours
Make my words worth it
Make this not just some poem that I write
Not just some poem like just another night that sits heavy above us all
Walk into it, breathe it in, let it crash through the halls of your arms
Like the millions of years of millions poets
Coursing like blood, pumping and pushing
Making you live, shaking the dust
So when the world knocks at your front door
Clutch the k**b tightly and open on up
And run forward and far into its widespread, greeting arms
With your hands outstretched before you
Fingertips trembling, though they may be
