I have written more information on the World Hope project: Revival of Detroit, but here is World Hope's page as well: https://www.facebook.com/worldhope
When one thinks of desperate places in the world, so many fit the description well. The very definition of the term “third-world” implies desperation in the extreme. There are not, however, too many places in this blessed land of the United States that would meet that criteria. We were shocked to discover that Detroit does and in a big way. We saw poverty as we have never seen it at home, crime that reaches epidemic proportions, and conditions that would rival those in the most deplorable slums. What we saw were hurting people in need of some good news.
With all of that in mind, doing nothing was not an option for us. Since God gives us equal amounts of responsibility to match His blessings, we are rising to meet the challenge of bringing Detroit Hope. We believe the Lord will give us an ideal property to build our first domestic Hope Center; one that will have everything we need to accomplish His goals for us doing His work. Please pray with us in choosing this site among the multitudes of abandoned schools, churches, and other locations that are available. We want the one He wants us to have.
The Hope Center will begin with a church plant and community revival projects. A day care center, after school programs, feeding center, medical clinics, and whatever else may be required to show the love of Christ to the hurting is our aim. In a place that is as desperate as Detroit, where 10,000 families become homeless every year, anything we can do will make a huge meaningful difference.
This of course is where you come in. We need you to help bring Hope to a group of people that government has not been able to help. We need you to help show Hope to a group of people that society has dismissed as being unimportant. We need you to be Hope for the people of Detroit, Michigan. We are World Hope, and together we can bring the Revival of Detroit.
Through the K-LOVE Hope Center, lives will be touched when needs are met and beneficiaries find the love of Jesus. Kids with no place to go after school will find a loving place to learn and do helpful activities, be provided with mentors and tutors.
Some of the planned initiatives include:
- Refuge for Kids (primary)
- After School Program
- Imaginarium (Study Space/Creative Room)
- FAME
- Sports
- Music Experience
- Fitness
- Sports Program Outreach
- Hope Church
- Hope Center - Meeting Needs (initially Kitchen and Jackets)
- Recover - recovery program
- Music Venue - Impacting Culture
- FUTURE: Business Incubator

DETROIT FACTS:
- Highest infant mortality rate in America. 3.5 times higher than Mexico.
- An estimated 10,000 families become homeless every year.
- 6 of the 7 schools in our district have been closed
- 3 out of 4 students in our district drop out of school, and of those that stay there is only at 68% graduation rate.
- Median home price in Detroit is $7,500, with thousands of properties on the market for $500 or less.
- Nearly 372,000 unemployed or underemployed in Detroit, which means that Detroit has more unemployed than the entire population of St. Louis.
- In a recent survey, half of the city's homeless population are at risk of imminent death.
Dear Family and Friends,
I’ve been given an exciting opportunity to bring hope to a distraught city this summer with World Hope missions, and I’d like to share it with you. I will be going with them to Detroit, Michigan from March 24th through the 29th, 2015, as a part of my missions group at Avalon Church. The K-Love Hope Center will be our focus as we aim to renovate it for the community.
The Hope Center has begun with a church plant and community revival projects within its inaugural year. Their aim is to provide a day care center, feeding center, after school programs, medical clinics, and whatever else they may need to show the love of Christ to the hurting. In a place that is as desperate as Detroit, where 10,000 families become homeless every year, anything we can do will make a huge meaningful difference. Each group that goes to the Hope Center in Detroit is responsible for working on particular rooms. The rooms Avalon Church will be working on are the Imaginarium, which is a creative study room, and the Rec room for various recreations.
The world’s greatest need is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God has given me a heart to go to Detroit and be used by Him and spend this spring sharing Him with those who have never heard. This is where you come in. In order to make this all possible, I need people who will commit to helping me through prayer and/or financial support. The baseline cost of my trip is $1,500. This cost includes all of my breakfast meals, lodging, and airfare and ministry tools. I need to raise half of my support by February 28th, 2015, and the second half by March 14th, 2015. Every little bit helps.
Would you please pray and ask the Lord how He would have you help me make my mission trip possible? I would be happy to answer any questions via my cell: 321-438-2025, e-mail: olivia_sr@aol.com, or via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OliviaRoman12
Your support would be greatly appreciated. You can make a check or money order out to me with Mission Trip in the memo section and send your support directly to my home address (inquiries can be made through my contact info above).
I ask for encouraging prayers and uplifting thoughts as my church family and I spiritually and mentally prepare for this trip.
Thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated. God bless!
With love,
Olivia Roman
P. S. Thank you letters recounting the details of how your donations helped to bring this mission trip to fruition will be sent to you upon my return.
