To our DCMS members, colleagues, and friends:
Over the past several weeks the news of the Crozer Health System closing has taken our county by storm. The ripple effects of the closure on healthcare delivery throughout, not only the county, but the surrounding region continue to unfold. Neighboring health systems are being inundated with patients in Emergency Rooms, Primary Care, and Specialty Care. Wait times in Emergency Rooms are increasing; new patient appointments in Primary Care and Specialty Care are not being scheduled until 2026! EMS is being forced to take people into Delaware and beyond for emergency and trauma care.
While the fallout continues, the DCMS remains committed to our physician members and our community. The DCMS continues to be engaged with local and state legislatures to ensure that private equity does not have the opportunity to decimate healthcare in our county and region ever again. We still stand in solidarity with our physicians in the county who have had their careers and lives upended because of the closure of Crozer Health.
Dr. Wendy Dean and Dr. Matt Ramsey of the 43cc Podcast have spent the last 5 weeks dissecting in great detail the Fall of Crozer Health and the impact it is having not only locally, but nationally. This highly rated national podcast has been putting the spotlight on Crozer, Delaware County, and private equity in medicine; they are advocating for our physicians and our patients. Several episodes feature interviews with two executive board members of the DCMS - Dr. Ryan Mascio (President) and Dr. Joyann Kroser (Secretary) as well as other DMCS members who have remained “anonymous” for fear of retaliation from Prospect Medical. We don’t often talk about “bravery” and “courage” in medicine - but these members exemplify just that in speaking out against Prospect Medical and private equity in medicine. While dissecting the private equity playbook, Drs. Dean and Reeves sound the alarm in healthcare and offer solutions on how to prevent this from ever happening again.
You can listen to the 43cc Podcast wherever you listen to your regular podcasts. More information can be found at 43ccpodcast.com. As I have been saying throughout these bonus episodes of the 43cc Podcast - Keep Listening, Keep Fighting.
As always, the DCMS is committed to advocating for physicians throughout Delaware County. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
In the coming days we will be sending our information on our next Happy Hour; this will be a great opportunity to come together to unwind and decompress, but also come together to be with one another and support each other in such tumultuous times…and start to dialogue how we can move forward together!
Thank you!
