Last week I attended a birth center-birth after 2.5 yrs of doing hospital only and baby let me tell you! OOH midwives ya’ll ain’t nothing to play with! Nerves of steel.
I’ll be the one to say it. Hospital midwives are spoiled! (JK)😂😂

Imagine it’s 3 in the morning pushing with a prime who went from 1-10 cm, in less than 2 hours, there’s meconium, then a tachypnea baby, retained membranes and a drippy uterus and it’s all on YOU! Shout out to my competent birth assistant. No MD, no neonatologist! You are the nurse, the doctor, the neonatologist and the midwife!
Out-of-hospital midwives you rock!
And guess what everyone was sent home in good condition, baby pink and calm, mommy all patched up, and daddy feel confident and reassured, his family will thrive! I’m so grateful for all my experience, in and out of the hospital!

Day two loading!
Yesterday was the first day of my locums tenes journey.
There is something about coming into an environment where they need providers to function. The appreciation was felt! My agency made everything so smooth. I have been getting the VIP treatment, which makes it so easy to pour myself into the work! The clients are adorable. I’ve already rcvd a compliment face to face. This maybe be exactly what I need to keep my midwifery flame burning. I’m out in New Mexico seeing patients in the office only this week. The office is well run, the MA’s are a big help, and I share an office with a kick-ass WHNP. I love those girlies!
No more full time jobs for me! This midwife has got to be free. Free to grow, free to expand, and free to collect coins around the world. Travel midwife on assignment! To God be the Glory! Thanks to all who supported, this journey, you are appreciated. .melanated.midwife and many more!

Happly Tuesday Birthworker Family!

I hope everyone is well.

Ya’ll this chapter of my life is called “Leveling Up”.

The last 8 months of my life have been an amazing whirlwind of self-discovery. I’ve traveled around the world and partook in some of the most life altering transformational experiences this life has to offer.

I’ve experienced myself in a way, that I’ve never had before. I learned a lot and now I’m ready to get back down to earth and back to work.

The next phase of my midwifery journey is loading….

My hands are now ready to catch a baby!
Any other midwives love getting henna on their hands as a ritual of honor or a pampering experience? Our hands serve us so faithfully in the work we do. There are moments where I’m intensely aware of how my hands are a conduit of my intention.
Give thanks for hands that hold and hands the heal.

Read this book.

I thought I understand what the witch trials were all about but I had no idea how they related to my work as a midwife and those who dared to do this work before me. If you think about it, we are in he midst of a witch trial right now. Healthcare providers are facing legal constraints when trying to provide life-saving care. All the while; the same devils that passed this law will privately seek healthcare for their friends and family if and when they need it.

We’ve been here before people.

My 6 months exclusively breastfed baby!

I’m currently enrolled in a prep course for the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant exam, sponsored by the DC Breastfeeding Coalition. Check them out: http://www.dcbfc.org It’s essentially free for individuals who work with undeserved communities and awards 45 credits toward the 90 needed for people on my pathway.
It’s been rough as I have been working a rotating schedule and was often sleep-deprived logging on, but overall it was a good class and this is still very necessary work. The formula milk market is projected to continue to grow. Recent news reveal Nestle is still undermining the health of babies around the world, and doing special harm to my fellow Africans in Kenya. See the latest news on how they were adding 3 grams of sugar to formula in Kenya, and none to the “same” formula going to Europe.* I’ve wanted to be in this work since 2014, but logistical issues with administrators of the exam discouraged me.
