Encyclopedia of Pulaski County, Missouri

Encyclopedia of Pulaski County, Missouri An ever growing compendium of the People, Places, & Things of Pulaski County, Missouri. The information can be found encyclopedia style in the photo albums.

This page strives to be a "go to" reference regarding the history of Pulaski County, Missouri. The albums are broken down into categories alphabetically. So, if you are looking for information about Henry Roam, you will find it in the "R" album. Looking for Tunnel Cave? That would be in the "T" album. This is designed to be a reference, not an in depth analysis of each subject presented. The information located in the Encyclopedia of Pulaski County is the result of almost three years of intensive research into this area. We would never be able to thank all the people who have provided us insight into a subject as we made our journey. But, this project could not have came together without the good folk of this county, who will gladly tell you about the "good ole days" when you ask. We would very much like to thank those who have came before us and put the history into written words. We refer to these works often and they comprise a majority of our local knowledge. This is very much a work in progress. Although we have traveled almost 90% of the counties dirt roads in search of things almost forgotten, there is always more to learn about the past and the characters who made our home what it is today. If you do not find what you are looking for on this page, check back tomorrow. We will always be adding new tidbits. If you have a story, or image to share of Pulaski County's past, please message us directly through this page, email it to Laura Huffman at piagt71@gmail.com, or facebook message Dawnmarie Sander Cecora. Enjoy! EDITORS:

Laura Huffman-

Laura Huffman’s roots are most deeply entrenched in Bollinger, Stoddard, Scott, and Cape Girardeau counties in and around the “bootheel” of Missouri. A military brat, she moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of ten and is a product of the Waynesville R-VI school system, graduating in 1989. A stint in the United States Navy led her to Groton, Connecticut, where she resided for five years before making her home for eight years in Springfield, Missouri. She returned to her childhood home in 2007 and still resides there today. Her love affair with localized history began during a trip to visit her Grandma & Grandpa Cato near Greenbrier, Missouri. Grandpa Cato let her read an old ledger concerning the Zalma Masonic Lodge. A few years later, another old ledger, of the Pulaski County Poor Farm, changed her life forever and set her on today’s course. She searches for old landmarks and stories of the people, places, and things of Pulaski County, as well as her family history, to pass along to her niece, Taylor Paige, and nephews, Kyle Duane and Gavin Matthew. Her efforts on this page are dedicated to them. Dawnmarie Sander Cecora-

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where I met and married my husband of 40 years. My husband joined the US Army in 1981, we have lived in many places over the 21 years he was active. We came to Pulaski County in 1989, my husband doing occasional deployment over the next 13 years until his retirement day had arrived. We fell in love with Pulaski County and had already decided this would be our home. Our boys were raised here, attending church, school, sports, community activities and scouts. I’ve worked for the county over the years meeting tons of people and building friendships with some that have turned into my most treasured gifts. With all these memories there couldn’t be any other place to call home. I became interested in history as I became involved doing my family genealogy. What started out as a hobby and quickly became my passion. I've been doing research on my family for over 33 years, turning back the pages of my family line in America almost 400 years. I realized over the years while doing my research that so much of our history is forgotten, not remote history, but history over the last 40-50 years, such as, where was a store, wasn’t there a house there at one time, was there a hospital here, etc. I became involved with this page in hopes that it becomes a reference point for others to take an interest in our great county and inspire others to continue to research and share the great history it offers.
