A note from our NH Su***de Prevention Council:

National Change to 988 Lifeline - “Press 3” Option for LGBTQ+ Youth Retires in July – New Hampshire Services Remain Unchanged

The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline has implemented a national change removing the “Press 3” option, which previously connected LGBTQ+ youth to affirming crisis counselors through The Trevor Project. This change is being made at the national level and affects all 988 systems across the country. The Press 1 option for the Veterans Crisis Line and the Press 2 option for support in Spanish remain active and available.

In light of this change, we want to affirm that New Hampshire’s 988 services remain fully operational, locally connected, and available to all individuals, including LGBTQ+ youth and adults. National statistics indicate nearly 40% of LGBTQ+ young people report seriously considering su***de in the last year (2024 National Survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health). We remain committed to serving all people with dignity, respect, and empathy, and continue to advocate for crisis systems that meet the needs of our communities.

Individuals experiencing a mental health, substance use, or emotional crisis can call or text 988 24/7 to be connected with trained crisis counselors. Our New Hampshire teams are here to listen, support, and help.

The work of the DMHA is not possible without the engagement of community members, partner agencies, businesses, organizations and sponsors. Thank you to everyone who attended a mental health training, participated in an event, engaged at a DMHA meeting with others, referred your client to a resource learned about at a DMHA meeting, collaborated with a partner, sponsored an event, helped someone in mental health or substance use distress, and for becoming an ambassador to help build mental health friendly communities. It was a great 2024-2025 season. Here is a short video with some highlights! See you in September!

A look back on this past year of the 2024-2025 DMHA "Season". Thank you to all of our community members who have joined in on trainings, attended events, shared the resources you've learned from being at our meetings, helped someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, helped to prevent su***de, worked to eliminate stigma and for being great ambassadors in building mental health friendly communities.

We had a fantastic final DMHA Community meeting of the 2024-2025 season. It was a packed house, and even several new people in attendance!
