Jesus said, so simply to His disciples, “as often as you do this (eating the bread and drinking the wine) do so in remembrance of Me.”
May that be our heart’s desire.

REMEMBER ME
According to Thy gracious word, in meek humility,
This will I do, my dying Lord, I will remember Thee.
Thy body, broken for my sake, my bread from heaven shall be;
Thy testamental cup I take and thus remember Thee.
When to the Cross I turn my eyes and rest on Calvary
O Lamb of God, my Sacrifice, I must remember Thee.
Remember Thee, and all Thy pains and all Thy love to me;
Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains, I will remember Thee!
REMEMBER ME
“This do, in remembrance of me.”
Luke 22:19 & 1 Corinthians 11:24-25
It is written of Jesus that He “made himself of no reputation.” (Another translation says that “He emptied himself!”) Such a concept is foreign to our ears in this day of empire building, self-esteem and self-promotion. Even when He was introduced by John the Baptist, He was described as the “Lamb of God” ~ the slain lamb actually for John said: “Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Jesus was presented as not only the Lamb, but the sacrificial lamb. In the mind of God, He very truly was “born crucified,” and in His own heart, He was at all times aware of this.
We speak of dying to the flesh and laying aside our own wills that we may more perfectly please God and fulfill His desires. Jesus never knew any other way! He was at all times totally committed and never wavered from that dedication. We read of Him in Phil.2:5-8, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought not by robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Jesus had no purpose other than to please His Father. Everything He expressed toward men was in the interest of furthering the Kingdom of Heaven, which is to say carrying out His purposes and implementing His laws, which are designed for man’s ultimate benefit and blessing.
Can it be that “He was despised and rejected, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” perhaps for this very reason? Would He have been more welcome, more popular, more admired and sought after if He had been born as many anticipated He would be, in royal splendor and in palatial surroundings? If He had been announced as the King of kings and displayed His excellence by wearing a golden crown and purple robes, would He have received the devotion and respect of the people?
