Every year customers ask me how long will their tree last? How can they keep it fresh once it’s in their home? Here are my suggestions and my own experience last year.
1. WATER…never let the tree run out of water. We’ll cut the base at the lot for you, but you must get it in water soon after to avoid having the sap seal the fresh cut. Likewise, if your tree runs out of water in the stand the bottom will seal preventing the tree from drawing up more water.
2. Placement: Do your best to keep your tree away from heat sources like windows, fireplaces, and heating vents. I violate this one ALL the time by placing my tree in front of a window. However, I close the blinds when it would receive direct sunlight.
3. Temperature: This may not be possible for everyone, but keeping your house cool makes your tree happy. It’s accustomed to cooler temps, and does better in a cool house without a heating vent blowing directly on it. Heat dries the air which also dries your tree.
I set up my tree on Dec. 5 last year which is fairly early for me. I kept it up until it began to feel dry on Jan. 8. That was my experiment for you guys. This video was taken on Jan. 5, and as you can see the tree was still soft and retaining its needles.
I hope this helps! ⛄️🎄
