It's been ages.
Like a cold car sat out in winter, restarting this studio has been a frustratingly slow, haphazard start full of spits, coughs, and groans.

Getting back into the practice of carving blocks, wetting the press, prepping plates has been.. odd. The mind recalls the resiliency and expects perfection, the body (I need to stretch more) has been a touch behind. It's easy to be discouraged, but discipline doesn't come from giving up - nor strength from sitting idly by.

This year is ambitious, but might not feel that way just yet - I'll be dropping new product slowly, polishing the prints until I'm ready for full steam head.

After years of only passively designing work, its been a fun wade back into designing wholesale products, planning pop-ups, and designing a new art fair booth. A well made gift.

reached out asking for some notebooks to send to their accounts, we built these gorgeous notebooks together as an homage to the north shore, environmental intentionality, and well appointed craftsmanship.

Letterpress printed with selective impression and white ink on Muscletone Black cover stock. 80 # Finch Fine Opaque filler on the inside, the papers are both high in recycled content and made with conscious forestry in mind. They're also beautiful to write and print on.

The topographic map is from along Lake Superior by Split Rock Creek, a favorite of ours to hike along.

Let's talk about duplexing:

It let's you print deep on both sides without bruising, use multiple paper colors, create thicker stocks that wouldn't normally exist, and solve color indecisiveness that happens all too often.

Printing multiple colorways has been a super popular choice of late amongst my jewelry clients: opposing dark and light sides with the same print allow for variable contrasting backgrounds for pieces.

Printed 1/1 on black and Flurry white for crisp impressions on a nice rigid paper.

Some nice and bright cards for in Minneapolis. One of 3 projects I got to deliver to the metro last week and got to check out their sweet digs.

Printed 2/2 Dense black and a warm yellow on thick Flurry cotton stock.

Bold.
Local networking wonder woman Shannon had these beauts designed. Thick bold stock with a clean simple design, these slightly skinnier cards were printed 1/1 with a punchy rubine red and a cool grey on double think Flurry cotton stock. To finish these off: a tone matched edge painting to really finish it off.

Understated:

jdgstewart.co designed these incredibly simple beauties for his motion graphics work. Note the subtle green printing: 4 dots. Subtlety is often the best move with letterpress.

Fresh off the Press

Project overview: Kendra from Arrowleaf & Arnica wanted a tag that could flex with her work: different shades, heights, and textures to fit the natural materials she uses.

Printed 2/1 Blind (no ink) and a cool Smokey Grey on duplexed Flurry cotton and Natural.
