Deaf Smile Project Let’s Make a Difference Hello! My name is Luciana! It is a pleasure to have you here! I am a Dentist in Brazil and a Registered Dental Hygienist in Maryland.

Additionally, I will begin my Master's in Public Health with a focus on Health Equity at the University of Maryland in Spring 2025. My journey is driven by a strong commitment to cultural awareness and social justice, particularly within underserved communities.

Yesterday, I had the honor of meeting with students from Federal Way Public Schools, WA ( to share health and oral care education in our language.

Seeing their engagement and receiving such meaningful feedback from Primary School Teacher Ms. Summers reminded me why the Deaf Smile Project exists. Access to health education in ASL is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Thank you for the invitation and the opportunity. I’m already looking forward to our next session! 💙🦷

So grateful for the opportunity to meet with parents and talk about why children’s oral health matters—early, accessible, and inclusive care makes a difference. Thank you to the Family Education Department at MSD () for the invitation!

❄️ The first and second days of snow have arrived, and I enjoyed them because they helped expand my knowledge!

🦷🪥 The annual MDHA conference is in the bag!

💫 Thanks, MD_ADHA, for supporting me with accommodations during the two days of the conference! We used Otter.ai for transcription, and it worked quite well!

🪥 Thanks, Philips, for the fantastic gift—a Philips Sonicare 6300 power toothbrush!

Today was a milestone for Dental Hygiene education! 🦷 🪥

CCBC_MD, of which I’m proud to be an alumnus, launched the Virtual Reality Lab! This technology not only lets students practice before entering the real world but also boosts their confidence in caring for patients. It makes students and patients feel more secure! 😊

☝️ I had the chance to try it, and it was incredible! As a Deaf dental hygienist, I was fascinated and embraced it! Why? Every tool has closed captioning! 🖥

💫 Technology, inclusion, and accessibility for Deaf students aiming to become future healthcare professionals!

🤟 Thank you, and , for the invitation and for letting me share this fantastic day! Congrats!
