A $99 lightweight daily trainer with PEBA foam, solid traction, and solid versatility?

Scott put the Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Pro through 50 miles of testing to see how it stacks up against more familiar daily trainers like the Hoka Mach, ASICS Novablast, and Brooks Hyperion.

His biggest takeaways: it has a responsive, stable ride, strong traction, a durable upper, and a strong value proposition. The main drawbacks are a warmer toe box, a less forgiving fit for higher-volume feet, and some potential inconsistency with availability depending on where you order.

Race-day mistakes: a support group for runners who have been personally victimized by mile 1 confidence. 🫠

For our Race Day Insights campaign with Elizabeth Clor, we surveyed 252 runners about the decisions, habits, worries, wins, and lessons that shape race day.

One question we asked:
“What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made on race day?”

The top answer? Starting too fast. Shocking? No. Relatable? Painfully.

Runners also called out fueling and hydration mistakes, trying something new on race day, weather/gear mismanagement, mental mistakes, and racing when undertrained or injured.

And this is just one piece of the full Race Day Insights project. Stay tuned for more findings on race-day goals, shoe choices, fueling, pacing, mindset, recovery, and more.

We’ll also be digging into the results with Elizabeth Clor on an upcoming episode of The Hobby Jogger Podcast.

Some running stores feel like fast food: quick, transactional, and pretty much the same no matter where you go.

But The Aid Station is aiming for something different.

On the latest episode of The Hobby Jogger Podcast, Jeremy Pope talks about building a running shop that feels more like a real gathering place: curated gear, thoughtful recommendations, actual running experience, and a space where runners can sit down, ask questions, meet up, refuel, and feel supported.

Because sometimes you don’t just need another shoe wall.

You need a place that understands the assignment.

What should a running store actually feel like? 👟

In this week’s episode of The Hobby Jogger Podcast, Casey and Rob are joined by Jeremy Pope, owner of The Aid Station in Wooster, Ohio, to talk about building a run specialty shop that’s more than a place to buy shoes.

Jeremy shares the mindset behind The Aid Station: a curated, community-first space where runners can discover new brands, get real advice from real runners, talk fueling, try on gear before guessing online, and maybe even sit down for a minute, just like you would at an actual aid station.

The conversation covers boutique running brands, the value of local run shops, fueling mistakes, small-brand discovery, race pop-ups, coaching, and why runners still need knowledgeable humans in an increasingly online gear world.

Is a “gravel shoe” actually necessary, or is it just another running shoe category trying to sneak onto your shelf?

David tested the Salomon Aero Glide 4 GRVL for 40+ miles across road, gravel, crushed limestone, light trail, and snow-covered winter roads. His verdict: it’s not a replacement for a true road shoe or a technical trail shoe, but it does make a lot of sense for the messy middle.

The Aero Glide 4 GRVL keeps a soft, cushioned, road-like ride while adding enough traction to feel more confident when surfaces get inconsistent. It shines on mixed-surface routes, snowy roads, towpaths, and those runs where road shoes feel sketchy but trail shoes feel like overkill.

🌍 Run The World: Denise takes on the Paris Marathon 🇫🇷

WeeViews Rising Star, Denise recently completed the Paris Marathon, and this race gave her the kind of experience that makes a destination marathon feel truly special.

For Denise, the course felt like a moving tour of Paris. She loved passing the city’s iconic monuments, soaking in the energy of the crowds, and taking in the performers who helped bring the route to life. Near the end, seeing the Eiffel Tower gave her a memorable emotional boost and reminded her why Paris is such a bucket-list race for so many runners.

With more than 200 races completed, including 12 marathons and 7 World Marathon Majors, Denise has experienced plenty of race-day environments. Paris still delivered something unique.

Her biggest challenge was hydration. Denise ran low on water and had to rely on small reusable cups filled by volunteers, which slowed things down and made it harder to maintain pace. It was manageable, but it was a real factor in her day.

For gear, Denise wore Brooks Ghost Max for reliable marathon cushioning, Brooks running tights with pockets to carry gels and salt tabs, and a Brooks shirt for race-day comfort. She also used the Nathan Speed Draw 2.0, which held her electrolytes without leaking.

Next up for Denise: the Run Monopoly Series, Detroit Free Press Half Marathon, and Cape Town Marathon.

$70 for this kind of performance?! 👀

Scott logged 50+ miles in the Xtep 2000KM 5.0 to see if this budget-friendly trainer could actually deliver...and the results might surprise you.

With a lightweight build, versatile ride, and durable outsole, this shoe punches well above its price point. But it’s not without tradeoffs, including a firmer feel and a more “runner-dependent” experience.

If you’re looking for a no-frills daily trainer that gets the job done without draining your wallet, this one’s worth a look.

🌟 WeeViewer Wednesday: Meet Felicia 🌟

Felicia’s story is a great example of what consistency over time can look like. She started running on her own at 16, and years later, she’s still showing up, now with a long list of races and big goals ahead.

In 2025 alone, she completed 66 races, including her first marathon (celebrating her 40th birthday) and her first 50K on a challenging, hot trail course.

Next up: her first 50-miler this September.

Felicia’s perspective is one many runners can relate to: every run is different, every race is different, and the key is learning to enjoy the process without being too hard on yourself.

Her current gear rotation includes Brooks Catamount and Launch shoes, an Ultraspire race vest, Garmin Forerunner 55, and fueling options like LMNT, Tailwind, and Gu.

Outside of running, she enjoys cooking, entertaining, and traveling, finding new experiences wherever she can.

Give Felicia a shout below and share a goal you’re working toward right now 👇
