Building Stronger Rural Communities: One Trusted Voice at a Time

Even in the cold, the community shows up through national helpers and trusted messengers. Today we revisit a moment that reminds us why community-engaged work matters. A few weeks ago, community partners came together to serve over 400 individuals and families across Vance and Warren Counties, ensuring neighbors had access to food and essential resources.

We are grateful for the leadership of Melissa Elliott, Mayor of Henderson, NC and her team of volunteers, who continue to be a trusted voices and visible in the community. Representing the TEAM NCCU from the Julius L. Chambers, Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute, Melissa galvanizes communities to work together to address rural health needs.

This is what authentic community engagement looks like in action—relationships, trust, and showing up, no matter the weather. One conversation. One partnership. One community at a time.
