It's Therapy Thursday...

And we're...

Decking the Halls with Skills & Ornaments 🎄

What better way to make your child’s progress more magical and memorable than by creating handmade Christmas ornaments?

This month, our sessions have been filled with flour, salt, and so much learning! These flour salt dough ornaments have been a hit with our clients, and there’s no better Thursday to debut this festive, hands-on holiday activity ❄️✨

Want to try it at home? Here’s a simple how-to:

❄️ Ingredients

-1 cup flour (all-purpose works great — do NOT use self-rising flour)

-½ cup salt

-Water (lukewarm, ¼–½ cup — start with ¼ and add as needed)

❄️ Tools

Large bowl

Baking sheet or parchment paper

Cookie cutters

❄️ Steps

-Mix the dry ingredients together.

-Slowly add water, stirring as you go.

-Knead the dough until it has an even consistency.

-Roll the dough to about ¼ inch thick.

-Cut out your ornament shapes and remove excess dough.

-Bake at 200°F / 100°C on parchment paper.

-After 1 hour, carefully flip the ornaments and bake for another hour.

-Continue baking as needed, checking every so often until fully dry.

Last week was one for the books! Between all the Halloween costumes, candy, and Spirit Week fun — our Winston-Salem clinic also got a major upgrade… our brand-new acrylic sign! ✨

Seeing “Developmental Therapy Associates” shining on the front of the building was the perfect way to cap off a week full of laughter, creativity, and community spirit.

🧡 Inclusivity on Halloween 🎃

We’ve been practicing Trick-or-Treating with our kiddos all week, and it’s been pure magic watching their excitement grow! ✨

As families get ready for the big night, here are a few simple ways to help make Halloween more inclusive for all children:

💬 For our AAC users, take time to model and practice common Trick-or-Treat phrases ahead of time — it helps build confidence and independence.

⏰ Encourage your child to give others a little extra time to respond — everyone communicates in their own wonderful way!

🎃 And most of all, celebrate each moment of joy, connection, and creativity this season brings.

A little patience, understanding, and kindness go a long way in making Halloween a treat for everyone! 🍬🕸️
