“Resistance to taking a shower”
One common caregiver mistake is assuming resistance to bathing is simply stubbornness.
In reality, showering can become frightening, exhausting, embarrassing, confusing, or physically uncomfortable for many older adults—especially when cognitive changes, balance concerns, or loss of privacy are involved.
What looks like “refusing help” may actually be fear, loss of dignity, or difficulty processing the task itself.
Understanding the reason behind resistance often changes how we respond.

In this band-resisted exercise, momentum is a requirement because without it, you’re not getting very far. It’s our ability to create and control momentum that should be the focus, not avoiding it. Therefore, the idea of generating as much momentum as you can control is key.

This particular exercise requires you to generate force off your forefoot and toes, crucial in walking and running. Force generation going forward and eccentric loading going backwards. It’s advanced and scary for most older adults but overcoming fear with proper cueing and coaching in a controlled environment, anything is possible!

Caregiving often brings responsibilities that people don’t fully expect.
Over time, those responsibilities can grow—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Many caregivers find themselves adjusting day by day, without always realizing how much they’re carrying.
That sense of pressure doesn’t mean something is wrong—it simply reflects how important this role has become.
Taking a moment to step back and notice what’s changing can help bring clarity.

Those observations matter. At Vitalguard Homecare, our trained caregivers pay attention to detail ….. Nothing is left out or overlooked. We care with love and precision 🤍

Sometimes the earliest changes in thinking or memory are easy to overlook.
A missed step in a familiar task…
difficulty following a conversation…
or small lapses that seem out of character.
These moments don’t always point to something serious—but they do signal that something may be changing.
Noticing patterns over time is one of the most important things a caregiver can do.
When changes are recognized earlier, it becomes easier to understand what’s happening and respond calmly.
You don’t need to have all the answers—you just need to begin noticing what’s different.

🤔 Homecare or Assisted Living — which is right for your family?

A lot of families struggle with this decision, and that’s completely understandable. Here’s a quick breakdown:

🏠 Homecare: Professional support comes to YOUR home. More independence, familiar environment, flexible schedules.
🏢 Assisted Living: Community-based setting with on-site care. Great for higher-level medical needs.

There’s no one-size-fits-all; but for many families, homecare is the first (and best) step.

You know you’re a dementia caregiver when you stop being surprised by where things turn up…

Dish towels in the freezer.
Dirty cups in the closet.
Lasagna in the silverware drawer.

Home should be a place of comfort — not risk. For seniors, everyday tasks can sometimes lead to falls or injuries. Professional caregivers play a key role in keeping the home safe and secure.

✔ How Caregivers Help:
• Identify and reduce fall hazards (loose rugs, clutter, poor lighting)
• Assist with safe movement, walking, and transfers
• Provide medication reminders to prevent missed or incorrect doses
• Support daily activities like bathing, dressing, and meal preparation
• Monitor changes in balance, strength, or behavior
• Offer constant supervision and quick response in emergencies
With the right care in place, seniors can remain independent while staying safe at home.

At Vitalguard Homecare, our trained caregivers focus on prevention, comfort, and peace of mind for families.
