🌟 Honoring Service, One Quilt at a Time 🌟

On October 11, 2025, at the Marion County VFW Post 10319, our incredible volunteer coordinator took part in a deeply meaningful Quilts of Valor (QOV) ceremony — a powerful event that wrapped veterans and service members in quilts stitched with gratitude, respect, and healing. 🧵🇺🇸

A Quilt of Valor is far more than a blanket. It’s a handmade tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. Each quilt is awarded, not gifted, and officially recorded as a symbol of recognition for a service member or veteran touched by war.

These quilts:
• Are lovingly made by volunteers who pour their hearts into every stitch
• Are formally awarded in a ceremonial presentation
• Carry this message: “You are seen. You are appreciated. Your service matters.”

One year ago today, we lost a bright light: a dedicated nurse, a kind soul, a healer whose footsteps left an indelible mark. Her memory still echoes through our halls, through the lives she touched, and through every shift, every patient, every moment she answered the call.

As we honor her today, we also lift up all nurses who have gone before us whether taken in service or called home in peace. We remember their compassion, their courage, their sacrifice.

In doing so, we embrace The Nightingale Tribute a sacred remembrance rooted in nursing history, symbolizing the respect, honor, and legacy each nurse leaves behind.

📖 What is The Nightingale Tribute?

It begins with a brief summary of a nurse’s career, followed by a reading (often the poem “She Was There”) and concludes with the presentation of a white rose and the words:

“(Name), we honor you this day and give you a white rose to symbolize our honor and appreciation for being our nursing colleague.”

The tribute is brief designed to take only a few minutes and may be adapted to fit the family’s traditions, faith, or personal preference.

During the tribute, a white rose is placed, a candle may be lit, and colleagues may speak her name, recognizing her presence, her gift, her legacy.

The power of The Nightingale Tribute isn’t just in the words it’s in the ritual: the rose, the naming, the collective breath of memory. It reminds us nurses are remembered not for the length of years, but for the difference made in moments.
