Our goal is to impact health care by empowering individuals to make their own health decisions based on their personal health goals. It takes time. It takes humility. It takes grace.
We agree with and daily incorporate the definition of health published by the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM): “Optimal health is the conscious pursuit of the highest level of functioning and balance of the physical, environmental, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of human experience, resulting in a dynamic state of being fully alive. This creates a condition of well-being regardless of the presence or absence of disease.”
We believe medicine is a partnership between the provider and the patient; there is healing power in the physician-patient relationship. The patient is an expert in their own health and personal journey and shares this expertise with the provider. The provider seeks to be an expert in their chosen medical specialty and shares this expertise with the patient. The patient is the final decision maker.
We believe the practice of medicine includes consideration of any and all treatments which have robust evidence of safety and effectiveness. These include a wide variety of traditional healing techniques, including everything from our typical Western medicine treatments to lifestyle modification and complementary approaches to health.
As an osteopathic practice, we believe in the Osteopathic Tenets (per the American Osteopathic Association) and apply these to each unique patient experience:
The body is a unit; the person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit.
The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance.
Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.
Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.
Lastly, we believe that this life is not easy, simple or free of pain. We all have a role in helping those around us in times of difficulty. We seek to lift up our patients and our communities. None of us are truly ever alone if we can find the bravery to ask for assistance and if that assistance is offered with love and grace.
