🌿 Beyond Awareness: The Liberatory Consciousness Framework in Social Work & Mental Health 🌿
So many of us enter social work and mental health with the deepest intentions: to heal, empower, and support. But here’s the paradox — without a critical and intentional framework, even our most well-meaning efforts can unintentionally uphold the very systems of racism, sexism, ableism, and classism we aim to dismantle.
That’s why I’m writing a new blog series on the Liberatory Consciousness Framework (LCF), developed by Dr. Barbara J. Love. It’s a roadmap that helps us move:
👉🏽 from passive awareness to intentional action
👉🏽 from repeating harmful patterns to cultivating systemic change
👉🏽from working in isolation to building accountability and allyship
This first post introduces the paradox of the helping professions, explores how socialization shapes practice, and defines what it means to live with a liberatory consciousness in our daily decisions, policies, and clinical care. ✨
If you’re a social worker, therapist, student, or simply someone committed to justice and healing, this series is for you. Together, we can weave awareness, analysis, action, and accountability into our professional and collective lives. 🌸

💬 After reading, I’d love to hear: What does liberatory consciousness mean to you in your own work or life?
