To end National Assisted Living Week I want to join in the festivities of sharing a few joyful moments I've experienced in Assisted living communities over the years. Hopefully you'll comment below and share yours as well!

Joyful moments is watching a resident use a painting of a horse on the wall as a point of reference during a music and art therapy co-sponsor event at the Artis.

Watching my son teach the residents at Colebrook Village in Hebron how to make paper flowers and having one resident say "Carter that's the nicest thing anyone has given me."

Experiencing the resident engagement director dancing with a resident on the reflection unit during a tour at the Residence at Brookside.

These are all joyful moments! But there's another side to assisted living care—the one that doesn't get mentioned much: the struggle for quality care in an industry where profits matter most. These eight communities deserve recognition for doing their best despite these challenges. I founded this company after working as a nurse in several settings (skilled nursing, home care, assisted living, and primary care) and dealing with the frustrations of the insurance companies, not being able to find time for the patients in my care, and hearing from frustrated family members who were having their loved ones discharged before they felt their needs were met. My goal was to create a company that assists caregivers to navigate the healthcare system.
