Fun demonstration of flexor digitorum longus. Kendall’s pinky toe hasn’t moved since a bunion removal and unless there’s considerable nerve damage, I’m thinking that a bit of hands on work to the bottom of her foot will get those tissues lengthening which will allow her to get flexion through the pinky toe. We also worked on my hip flexor stuff because her right leg was working way too hard while the left foot was in a boot. Most importantly is that her pain is decreasing and she’ll slowly be able to put more force through the left foot. 🍀✌🏼🏒

Always a pleasure working with long-time friend . Today we focused on getting some length out of his abs in the front and taking the stress off of his low back via iliocostalis. We’ll slowly begin to load some bridges and get his leg distributing force a bit move evenly. Easier said than done when the guy doesn’t stop throwing kicks and punches but we play the hands we’re dealt. 😂 And thanks for the Sake Pete!

Hesitation and compensation is our brain saying, “I’m not so sure about this one.”

Over time, our goal is to encourage this ‘fearlessness’ by creating an environment for the body to organize itself within. This can be done though decreasing pain perception with acupuncture before incorporating strategic movements/exercises. Test-Treat-Move-Retest.

If the pain from turf toe begins to change how the foot hits or leaves the ground, we’ll likely begin to see pathological changes upstream at the ankle, knee, and hips.

Treating locally can help with pain but will also stimulate blood vessel development in an area. Coupled with treating the spine we’re interfering with the pain signals being sent to the brain.

If the brain perceives less pain and healing is encourage locally, we’re on the right track. From there its making sure that patients are moving in ways that will get them back to their favorite activities pain-free.

If things aren’t getting better and staying better, our treatments need to be better…

Whenever possible, I feel it’s best to heal through movement. Acupuncture is a fantastic tool to get people out of pain but the goal is longevity in function/movement.

Incorporating movement in an integrative setting with PT’s and Trainers or in the thoughtful prescription of corrective exercise is one way to keep patients OFF your table.

If things aren’t getting better and staying better, our treatments need to be better.

Mostly painless, occasional pinch.

Ahhh 5x5’s, some might call it the sweet spot. Sets of 3 coming next week.

If you’re an athlete at any level, make sure the therapists, acupuncturists, etc, can relate to what you put yourself through. It does make a difference.

Way better than sets of 10 but this heavy 5x5 still gave me a beating. Happy to be under heavier bars though, reminds you that you’re not made of glass. It’s going to be a great summer of working/training and I’m f*cking pumped about it.

This bit from Meditations has stuck with me since I first read it. Every once in a while I come back to it for a perspective reset. It’s not to be nihilistic, that’s for lames. Instead, this little gut check helps reorganize things.

Always good to take a step back, remind ourselves of what’s really important and consider the person we have the potential to become.

That’s heavy enough for today. Got a song on sleep coming this week. 😴 ✌🏼🍀
