The Healing Power of Rhythm: Reconnecting Through Drumming

Across generations, people of color have turned to rhythm as a source of strength, connection, and healing. Drumming is more than sound — it’s an embodied language of resilience and remembrance. Each beat carries the pulse of our ancestors, reminding us that we are part of something timeless.

In therapeutic practice, drumming helps regulate the nervous system, release stored emotions, and create community. Whether played in a circle, in meditation, or simply by tapping along to a favorite song, the act reconnects us with our body and spirit.

Reclaiming these ancestral practices allows us to heal on multiple levels — emotionally, culturally, and spiritually. It’s a call back home to the rhythms that have always sustained us.

🎶 New Playlist Drop: Healing Through Harmony 🎶

Music has the power to move, soothe, and restore us. I’ve curated a Spotify playlist designed to support emotional grounding, mindful reflection, and intentional self-care — perfect for journaling, winding down after therapy, or simply centering your energy for the day ahead.

Each song was chosen to nurture peace, balance, and connection — because healing doesn’t only happen in session; it’s something we can invite into every moment. 💛

Who am I?

I have never been one to live in a “traditional” manner... I had my eldest daughter in between my freshman and sophomore year of undergrad, and continued school. I hadn’t ever had an experience with therapy until I began college. I saw the value in it, and the harm I was doing myself, by not addressing my own emotional wounds. I am a big proponent of therapy, mindfulness and self care. I radically support the notion of “ being around those who are energy fuelers versus energy drainers. Fast forward nine years after having my oldest, I had my second daughter. I have done my best to live the way I practice.... I realize that my path hasn’t been a direct path to where I am now, and I am still growing myself.

My hopes for counseling patients or mentoring new clinicians is to impart a spirit of authenticity, self love and and grace. “Grace” for not having arrived to your destination, “Grace,” for not doing things in the “order” that mainstream society says you should, and “Grace” for being a perfectly, imperfect human being.
