Myoskeletal studies continue! 🤓

We are more than just muscles! Ligaments and bones play an important role in whole body alignment as well. Soft tissue techniques, integration of stretching, joint mobilization and corrective movement strategies - this bodywork is designed to restore balance, ease tension and retrain the body for lasting results. As much as I love seeing y'all, ultimately my goal is to get you better to where you need me less because you're making progress and feeling amazing! Which is why I love MAT so much. I truly feel it's a great path towards moving more freely and feeling less pain. 💚

💧 Tips for staying hydrated!

· Aim for about 2–3 liters of water per day (varies with activity, climate, and body size).

· Track your intake with an app or a reusable bottle with measurements.

• Keep a refillable water bottle at your desk, in your bag, and in the car.

• Make sipping a habit instead of waiting until you’re thirsty.

· Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, celery, and strawberries.

• Drink a glass first thing in the morning to kickstart hydration.

• Before, during, and after exercise, drink water to replace fluids lost through sweat.

• Include electrolytes for intense or long workouts.

• Minimize excess caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks, which can increase fluid loss.

· Some electrolyte-rich foods include: bananas, avocados, pickles, cheese, pumpkin seeds, fish and spinach.

Cupping therapy can help release tension in the muscles and improve circulation to the area, which may lead to improved range of motion and flexibility. Redness: The suction of the cups can increase blood flow to the area, which may result in temporary redness or discoloration of the skin."

- Healthline

People wonder about the red and purple marks left behind after cupping. They are NOT bruises. Bruises happen though impact breaking capillaries due to trauma to the area. Cupping is known as negative pressure as it lifts the tissue instead of compression to the tissue, which can result in bruising.

The marks left behind from cupping is actually the blood being pulled to the area and stagnation being lifted from the tissue. Cupping can go about 4 inches below surface, unlike gua-sha that is only surface deep. The darker the marks, the more stagnation or congestion (metabolic debris, blood, and lymph) that is being drawn to the surface.

Guasha is for acute pain to where cupping is for more chronic situations. When we lift the stagnation, we are creating a healthy environment for oxygen and good nutrients to enter muscle. We are also lifting fascia to a stretch relieving pressure off deeper tissue layers and nerves.

Cupping marks can last a few hours to several days. It is important that the therapist flushes the area after treatment to help flow and educate you on care post treatment. The more you receive cupping and gua-sha, the less markings.

Side note: I am very active and these marks will fade in about 5 days. I've seen marks lingering for a couple weeks. It all depends on the person.
