On behalf of the members of the Greater York Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 2377, we would like to congratulate York Area United Fire & Rescue on achieving International Accredited Agency status through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. This recognition reflects the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the firefighters, officers, and staff who serve our community every day.
Accreditation is an important milestone and represents the hard work that went into evaluating the department’s operations, policies, and service delivery. Our members take pride in being part of an organization that strives to improve and deliver the highest level of service possible to the residents of Springettsbury, Spring Garden, and Manchester Townships.
However, accreditation and the recommendations that come with it are only meaningful if they lead to action and measurable improvements. The self-assessment and peer review process is designed to identify areas where departments must continue to grow and strengthen their service delivery.
One of the most critical areas affecting both firefighter safety and public safety is adequate staffing on fire apparatus. Our members continue to respond to emergencies with limited personnel, often arriving on scene understaffed while attempting to perform multiple critical tasks simultaneously. Fires, rescues, and medical emergencies demand coordinated and timely action, and proper staffing is essential to ensuring those tasks can be completed safely and effectively.
As the department celebrates this achievement, we believe it is equally important to ensure that the findings and recommendations from the accreditation process are addressed in a meaningful way. Accreditation should serve as a roadmap for improvement — not simply a designation.
Our firefighters stand ready every day to serve the community with professionalism and dedication. They deserve the staffing, resources, and support necessary to safely perform their duties and protect the residents who rely on them.
We look forward to working collaboratively with department leadership and municipal officials to ensure that the accreditation process results in real improvements that strengthen both firefighter safety and the level of service provided to our community.
Once again, congratulations on achieving this milestone.
