SCAM ALERT: Fake Plastic Medicare Cards
Seniors are being warned about a new Medicare scam designed to steal personal information and money.
Scammers are mailing plastic Medicare cards that look very official. These cards are often laminated, glossy, and sometimes even include a convincing-looking hologram. Because they appear more “official” than the real thing, many people trust them—but they are fake.
⚠️ Important Reminder:
Medicare does NOT issue plastic cards. Official Medicare cards are paper only.
The scam typically includes a letter telling you to call a number to “verify your identity” or “activate” the new card. When you call, the scammer will ask for sensitive information such as your:
• Social Security number
• Medicare number
• Banking information
This information can then be used for identity theft and fraud.
What to Do:
If you receive one of these cards or a call about a “new” Medicare card, do NOT call the number provided.
Contact your local Senior Medicare Patrol, or SMP. Find your local Senior Medicare Patrol using the online SMP Locator

Please consider sharing this information with seniors, family members, and friends to help prevent them from becoming victims.
