One more for fun.
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – Rock Steady Style, 2025
‘Twas just before Christmas and there in the gym,
a fantastic group gathered, the fight soon to begin.
The gloves will come out, the stories shared here,
say they’re in this together and won’t bend to fear.
The fighters are working to build up their muscle,
while also improving their balance and hustle.
Coaches in punch mitts and boxers in gloves,
the sound of the punches, is something to love.
Then from the speed bags there arose such a clatter,
people gazed through the door just to check out the matter!
They’d witness a group, not slowed down by fears,
but instead, a big family who shouts, laughs and cheers!
Sometimes they feel like they move a bit slow,
but they throw jabs and punches and shout out “Let’s go!”
They work hard and they sing, it’s beautiful to hear,
united in a fight that spans year after year.
There’s tough group of coaches, all wearing their mitts,
ready to catch all of those great big hits.
In rapid succession, the punches they came,
to the sequences called and the silly nicknames.
Now Karyl, now Sue, now Garys and Bobs,
on Rick, on Mark, on Dan and on Tom!
From the smack of the bags to the slam of the ball,
Now jab away! Cross away! Hook away all!
As varied as snowflakes in a soft winter sky,
this group of brave humans will let their punches fly.
The ladies are bad ass, the gents, they are too,
they’ve come here to fight and they know what to do.
So, when the bell sounds, you’ll witness the proof,
that nothing can stop them, they’re living their truth.
The fists are drawn back, and those hits make a sound,
of power and strength as they finish each round.
They’re here doing planks to show off those abs,
then they’ll be in their gloves poised and throwing those jabs.
A fierce look they have fighting this thing called PD,
a group of true athletes, completely at ease.
Those eyes will tell you, how today they might feel;
and when they find their power, that’s when it gets real.
They put in the work and they travel the miles,
then they beat down PD and do it with a smile.
Now observe all of the ladies, and make no mistake;
when their gloves go on, a hard punch you will take.
She may be petite but she’s tough and she’s strong,
if you think you can beat her, you’ll see that you’re wrong.
And the gents full of power, a group of proud fighters,
watching them box, makes life seem so much brighter.
They’ll never back down and they’ll never give in,
it’s there in their nature, they came here to win.
So as the class ends, they know what they’ve done,
workouts can be challenging but together, it’s fun!
The time has arrived to take off those gloves,
with a look through the room you will witness the love.
Yes the Parkinson’s fighters, their will is so strong,
away they all go with a smile and a song.
In a cheer we’ll exclaim, “we’ll work hard day and night!”
Happy boxing to all, and to all a strong fight!
Cheers to all.
