It's important to stop when you see a school bus. The only exception is when you're driving the opposite direction AND divided by a median.

BACK TO SCHOOL: School has started, and buses will be active throughout the state. Remember to slow down and prepare to stop when you see flashing amber-colored lights and stop completely when you see red-colored flashing lights.

Remember, even if you’re traveling the opposite direction of a bus, you still must stop when red lights are flashing. The only exception is if you are traveling on the other side of a divided road that’s separated by a median or other physical barrier.

Driving in rural Wisconsin? You may encounter flagging operations if roads are being worked on, as detours are not always an option in rural areas. These work zones usually involve a lane closure on a two-way road, and traffic takes turns traveling through the only available lane. Here’s a reminder on what to do when approaching flagging operations:

1. Watch for road work signs and slow down. Be prepared to stop completely.
2. Follow the instructions of the flagger (work zone crew member).
3. If a flagger instructs you to stop, stop behind the designated line or cone. Stay patient and do not proceed until the flagger directs you to do so.
4. When instructed to move through the work zone (usually by a sign that reads, “SLOW”), slowly navigate through the work zone, don’t pass other vehicles, and watch for workers.

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949.

Studies found that people with a mental disorder, such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), may use drugs or alcohol as a form of self-medication. However, although some drugs may temporarily help with some symptoms of mental disorders, they may make the symptoms worse over time. Additionally, brain changes in people with mental disorders may enhance the rewarding effects of substances, making it more likely they will continue to use the substance.
