Today, compassion for yourself as well as others 🫶🏼

Today, compassion for yourself
as well as others 🫶🏼

When you are experiencing difficulty finding time for yourself and you are feeling more and more stressed, perhaps try this technique. Carve out even 10-15 minutes to yourself. Tuck your phone away somewhere. Go to a quiet room, head outside in nature, or even escape solo in your car for a bit--but park your car somewhere.

Once there, get comfortable, and sit quietly.
Stay calm and center.
Breathe deeply and notice your inhale, exhale; feel the rise and fall of your belly.

After you have done this for a few minutes, place your hand on your heart, continue with your breathwork.
Then quietly say to yourself:

There is enough time.
There is enough energy.
There is enough love.
I am loved.
May I stay fully present, awake, and aware of what is happening within me and around me today.

Return to this technique or practice whenever you notice tension rising in your body or mind.

You deserve to feel peaceful.

Our Free Peoples Clinics in the Midwest didn't happen all at once. They began in a small and quiet way in 2006. Setting up under blue tarps at protests, in the city, in rural areas, supporting a mobile clinic running low on supplies, healers staying late because a patient had nowhere else to go. Impacts that don't make headlines, but change lives, one person at a time.

And then, just as quietly, people began to show up year after year.
Not as saviors, but as neighbors, healers, herbalists, nurses, gardeners, students, parents, and wise elders.
People who understood that deep in the body and community circles that health is not only a commodity for those who hold most resources.

At first someone offered her healing center for visiting clinicians. Someone else dropped off jars of herb teas they had dried. Someone's son, an accountant, helped with the books. Some women cooked soup. People donated tinctures and garden goods. Drivers drove.
Listeners listened.

The Free People's Clinics became a gathering point, not only for healing, but for community-building. No one asked first what papers you carried or how much money you made. The first question was always this: "What do you need the most right now?"

Mutual aid didn't look heroic. It looked human.
And it still does.

It looked like trust moving hand to hand.
Traditional medicine skills remembered and shared.

Our Free People's Clinics survived not because of one leader or event, but because many people decided that health, empowerment, community and compassion were worth protecting.
Worth nourishing. Worth defending with gentleness and persistence.

And that's how it still works.

Each Free People's Clinic someone shows up.
Someone gives what they can.
Each time the circle holds.

Not perfectly,
but together.

We'll continue to offer our WarmLine and Free Peoples Clinics to folks and friends in Minneapolis to the Midwest U.S. this year.

We care about you so much!
Thank you everyone,

Botanicals for the Respiratory System Impacted by Chemical Irritants

Upstanders and others exposed to chemical irritants this morning may want to consider these botanicals..,

When it comes to botanicals there are sundry respiratory herbs to consider for general respiratory
health. I am listing six of my favorites in each category possessing specific clinical actions. Here are some
of the herbal allies that will help soothe, strengthen, and protect your respiratory system during smoke
exposure:

Soothing Demulcent Herbs
Horehound, Licorice root, Lungwort, Marshmallow leaf and root, Mullein leaf, Slippery Elm

Mucus-Moving, Clearing Expectorants
Cayenne, Chapparal, Elecampane, Ginger, Lovage root, Thyme

Anti-inflammatory & Antioxidants
Green tea, Nettle leaf, Oregano, Reishi mushroom, Turmeric

Bronchodilators, Opening Airways
Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Grindelia, Lobelia, Lovage or Osha root

There are other herbs worthy of mentioning to add to general respiratory tonics:
Allium family, Garlic, Horehound, Lemongrass, Mint, Oregano, Sage, Wild Cherry Bark, and Evergreen
Needles such as Balsam, Cedar, and White Pine.
Cardiovascular Botanical Supports

We are trying to get this info out quickly.
There’s more than this.
Remember to seek medical attention if you are injured.

A lot of chemical irritants being deployed in Minneapolis by Nicollet right now. We are posting this again for your safety. Street medics and volunteers just dropped off supplies there…

Herbal First Aid Field Notes:

This week and weekend we've been receiving messages from our friends and students about how to handle eye injuries by pepper spray or other chemicals and other injuries that have occurred in the Twin Cities.

Here is simply a brief message that went out today...

Here is some immediate support when impacted by pepper spray (OC), tear gas (CS/CN), or other chems impacting the eyes:
First, prevention with eye gear, masks, if at all possible. Train people to get in fresh air ASAP, to not rub eyes, to flush with clean room temp water or saline solution. Eyes must be flushed for 15-20 minutes continuously, even longer if burning persists. Irrigate from the inside of eye outward direction so chems do not run in toward the other eye again. Blinking helps, rather than rubbing eyes. If a person has contact lenses, they should remove right away as they trap chems. Offer the person clean sterile gloves not impacted by chems to do that process.

In herbal street medic or home kits it is a good idea to always have eye irrigation kits, Strong eyebright tea in squeeze bottles, Euphrasia (Eyebright) homeopathic pellets and eye drops. Some people will think that soap, diluted essential oils, or other ingredients will help. Not so. Irrigate. Rest eyes. Cool compresses.

I do suggest people go to receive medical care right after, too. Contrary to what people think there can be long term damage. I have posted a video about the hazards of rubber bullets and sprays in protests on my personal website recently. I can sure do that again...

This Saturday Stimulate Your Senses of Taste and Smell

This has been an intense week for many. Today, take a bit of time to release tension from your body and open to some enjoyment, even for one hour. Your body and mind will thank you.

Taking time to sit and have a cup of tea can be a very relaxing ritual to enjoy when it’s time to calm yourself. Herbal teas like chamomile, lemon balm, or passionflower will help you relax and ease tension in your nervous system. Hot cider spiced with cinnamon is a yummy option when it is -25 F as it is here this Saturday morning! ❤️‍🔥

Cooking can also be delightfully therapeutic, not to mention enjoying something delicious you make for yourself, family, and friends. It can also be relaxing to simply look through a favorite cookbook, or collection of recipes and make something that’s nostalgic or comforting such as wild rice soup or a root veggie stew.

Today, enjoy nourishing your senses!

Chronic stress can rewire the nervous system and create havoc with sleep, digestion, mental focus, even physical and emotional pain levels. When stress becomes structural, we move into adaptation and survival mode. If this is happening to you right now, here are my top three naturopathic and botanical medicine ideas for you. Heartfelt healing to you,

gigi

-Consider an adaptogen+nervine tonic tea blend, two or three cups daily. A suggested blend is Milky Oat tops, Nettle leaf, Nettle seed, Tulsi as a botanical baseline. Add other herbs that are individual to your body's needs.

~Try an adaptogen medicinal mushroom tincture or tonic for support. Some important ingredients to consider are: Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, Reishi. There are others. Be sure the mushrooms are ethically sourced.

~Don't forget your daily multi-vitamin and a B-complex, hydrating, resting, sleeping, and moving your body more.

There's more you can do, of course. Today, one to three new steps would truly be enough and will help reset your nervous system.

This month Gigi Risberg Stafne, MH, ND will also be teaching several resiliency workshops. To learn more about them reach our school and clinic: https://greenwisdom.weebly.com/contact-us--paypal.html
