The orofacial system isn’t isolated — it’s deeply connected to how we speak, breathe, chew, and even behave. Poor muscle strength & tone or imbalances in the tongue, lips, and cheeks can disrupt the entire system, impacting sleep, bite, airway, and beyond.

👉 Our myofunctional specialists can help uncover the root causes and design a targeted plan to restore functional balance.

Having children screened by an airway trained provider is essential in preventing future problems.

Having children screened by an airway trained provider is essential in preventing future problems.

Early detection of airway issues in children is so important. Problems with the airway, particularly related to breathing, can impact a child’s growth, sleep, speech, cognitive development, and overall well-being.

Dentists, particularly those trained in airway management, can detect signs of mouth breathing, poor tongue posture, or dental issues linked to airway problems. How often does your child go see their dentist? What questions are they asking?

Parents, pediatricians, and dentists should be proactive in identifying potential signs of airway concerns, so timely intervention can be made to promote healthy growth and overall well-being.

✨ Functional Frenuloplasty✨

There is a lot of internet misinformation and providers, who don’t have specialized training, making recommendations or discouraging patients from seeking treatment for tongue ties.

The tongue’s mobility is essential for breathing, swallowing, and speaking, and restrictions from tongue-tie often lead to muscle imbalances. As myofunctional therapist we can identify and address these compensations, enhancing surgical outcomes and overall oral health.

Nasal breathing and myofunctional therapy offer powerful benefits for overall health and wellness. Nasal breathing naturally filters, warms, and humidifies the air, enhancing oxygen absorption and reducing the risk of illness. It also promotes nitric oxide production, which supports cardiovascular health. Myofunctional therapy helps correct tongue posture, improve oral function, and support better breathing habits, which can reduce snoring, sleep apnea, and other respiratory issues. Embracing these practices can lead to better sleep quality, increased energy, and improved oral health. Breathe better, live better! 🌬️

Myofunctional Therapy is not simply a regimen of exercises and stretches, but ultimately it is about being able to breathe, chew, and swallow efficiently.

Nasal Breathing is Better Breathing

Nasal Breathing: Your Body’s First Line of Defense

When you breathe through your nose, the air is filtered, warmed, and humidified before it reaches your lungs.

Additionally, nasal breathing helps produce nitric oxide, a natural molecule that boosts circulation and has antimicrobial properties, helping to fight off viruses and bacteria.

In contrast, mouth breathing bypasses these natural defenses. This increases the risk of respiratory infections and weakens your immune response.

By prioritizing nasal breathing, you can:

• Strengthen your immune system
• Lower your risk of respiratory infections

The blue area is the area for breathing. The size of it is dictated jaw growth, tongue posture, and tooth position.

EARLY ON in skull growth is when that area to breathe can be changed for the better!!!

Dr. Skow knows how to do it and she’s treated kids as young as 3. Waiting for all the permanent teeth can be too late to maximize the airway growth opportunity.

In adulthood, though, Dr. Skow still has tricks up her sleeve to maximize the airway and help you sleep!
